Pic:EK shock tower damage, would YOU repair or scrap
I currently ran into problems with my 1998 dx hb shell. I believe when i bought it, it was in an accident and patched where the shock tower meets the frame it deteriorated and separated itself. the extra weight of the swap and stiffness from being lowered def. took its toll heres a pic
I am currently welding in new strengthened steel in here but plan to just use this winter and pull the swap

i actually put 15k on this chasis for it to separate. I did notice a crack and hole but figured aghhhh. when putting my oem suspension back in. not further investigating or realizing what was going on here.
now i see how bad and yes dangerous this can be. im not after the seller the car has a beautiful gsr swap for my race car..and if this was 1999 the insurance would have this repaired i believe.... I paid 1600 for the car swapped it wasnt a huge pricetag for a mint shell. (seller might have known about this though! purchased ASIS)
ive given a go ahead to repair this with welded steel at a very skilled welding shop and will post what I get back! for now im still amazed and looked at a couple hondas...
this is very weak area, there is a hole for a brake line that can rust, crack, and cause this over time. I have checked my other car to make sure this will never happen to it.
so i got out to my shop i saw it sitting low on that corner, and the hood slightly elevated. check your hondas make sure this doesnt happen!
im hoping my ek will live another winter or year with the repair. it should easily. but now I will not be going next level and doing any bodywork or restore of anykind to it

what youre seeing is it lifted because the shock tower in this pic is not pushed down, once its pushed down and lined up like how it came originally, tacked, then plate welded it will sit normally. i hope.
mint shell though eh guys I had some nice plans to race this car a bit but now its just to get around and baby my back up swap for my turbo civic

take everything salvageable off of it including all interior parts harnesses and what not and sell what you want off. And scrap the chassis

not a chance! the welds penetrated very well and i lowered the car pretty fast on the jack. ZERO movement. and rides nice n straight now too.
now im just annoyed the last owner stripped a couple threads in the aluminum head for the header to bolt up and seal 100% so I cant get the threaded stud to stay in without re drilling and tapping for a larger stud and it needs new ps/alt belts..... thats about it. dont buy peoples unfinished projects.

wow, thats as bad as the rear towers on my ek hatch i have them welded with thick 1" natural gas pipe, just to get the car around for 1 more year, then the body is getting scrapped and my motor is going into another shell.
