p30 Or p28 chipped ecu for b16a2 swap....?????
i'm nervous about doing my very first swap but the only thing i kinda have the
concern about is the ecu's. is beter for me to have the the p28 chipped for the
perforamnce of a p30, so i dont have to run the ks wire and the iab wire? or is it
better to have the p30 ecu? if so, can someone tell me a website where i can find
a diagram for the p30 or tell me how to run the wires please...??????

ks = knock sensor
iab = ??
you can run either or, and no you dont need the KS hooked up. a "CHIPPED" P28 (most programs) will not read the knock. i ran a chipped JDM P30 (small body, which is good to fit back into the kick panel in late models 96-00) when i had my b16a2 (00 si) and it ran good. the JDM P30 in my own experience is a little more agressive compared to the P28 with the same chipped program.
the USDM P30 is almost like a chipped P28 but does read the KS.

he was talking about the P30 and P28 specifically, it has nothing to do with obd2 in the first place or did it matter what year it is. you cant do anything to an obd2 ecu anyways, only remove the Immobilizer.
as for P30 auto or manual, they're pretty much the same. just convert it to manual.

well I do know that alot of custom chips disable the knock sensor so if your going to run a chip, save a few bucks and just go p28
one of the reasons they disable the knock sensor, is so the chips are cross compatible (can be used on the p28 and p30 with no problems)

Re: p30 Or p28 chipped ecu for b16a2 swap....?????
Ok.... It's a 1994 Honda Civic Ex and i'm am putting a b16 fom hmo into it. they
say it is a sir-II so i'm guessing that it's a jdm engine. The only thing im worried
about doing is the wires. i dunno what the "Iab" wire is but it was on c-speed
racing for the b18c1 so i figured it would be on the b16 too. if my car already has
vtec, what wires do i have to add except for the ks wire? and i know this is a
stupid quetion but how do you run the ks wire? what kind of wire,how do i pin it
into the ecu and where i the ecu do i have to put it. I really want to thank you guys
for helping me through this.

Re: p30 Or p28 chipped ecu for b16a2 swap....????? (jh)
If its a jdm motor you're gonna need to get a vtec oil pressure sensor as they do not come with them overseas. From there, if you get a chipped p28 you dont need to wire up anything, IAB is for the secondary runners on the gsr motor. So from there its a straight plug and play swap, I'm about to tackle the same myself except I have the gsr motor.

hell i am going to plug myself:
1. Buy a P28 from SiFreak.
2. I'll chip it for the engine.

IAB is not on the P28 or P30, If the B16A does not have a VTP I can disable the code in the rom. However, it should have the VTP, the only JDM motor VTEC *B Series engine I have seen without it was a JDM ITR B18C.
