P28 auto --> 5 speed
Greeting from S. FL
Just converted my '93 DelSolSi from auto to 5 speed. Can anyone direct me towards some info on how to convert the P28 ? Right now everything works, except VTEC. Used a friends 5 speed P28 & it worked great.
TIA

Re: P28 auto --> 5 speed (Jswpstdoff)
Thanks for the reply.
I read the link. I noticed someone asked if the removal of the 2 ROMs would do the conversion. But no one confirmed it.
As I only have my original P28, could someone please give a yea/nay as to whether it's that easy.
Thanks

Re: P28 auto --> 5 speed (lgcubana)
You have to move the resistor from slot RP17 and RP18 and then in RP18 solder in a 0ohm resistor (this can just be a single strand of a wire, it just has to connect the two holes). The area where RP17 and RP18 are is the lower left corner (opposite the ECU plug side looking at the ECU from the backside, not the plugside). There is a little strip of resistors outlined with a bold white line.

Make sure to get a decent soldering iron. And also, be very careful NOT to overheat the ECU board or I guarantee you will damage it. You will also need either a desoldering iron or a desoldering bulb in order to suck the solder out of the joint you are trying to desolder.

Re: (b16a ferio)
I guess that I got lucky both R17 & R18 had resistors. So I just removed the resistor from R17. Because I have an EManage & an entire MSD setup, I'll let the engine run for a few hours to let everthing sync up properly. But already I've noticed that the CEL has gone away & idle is smoother.
Thanks again for all of the responses.

You need to take out the resistor that is in RP18 right now and Solder in a 0ohm resistor. Do this, open up the ECU and look at the resistor that is in there now. If it is a brownish/tan color with one single black stripe going around it then you are fine, if it has colored stripes you need to remove that and put a piece of wire in it's place.

Re: (b16a ferio)
Wouldn't "O ohm" equate to no current &
a "straight line" to the exact opposite
Regardless I'll p/u a 0 Ohm resistor.
Right now the resistor in R18 is Rd,Bl,Yw. I don't know if RadioShack's color code is universal, but by their table it equates to 26 Ohm.

Re: (Split Image Prez)
simply removing the RP17 will set the ecu into a 5spd mode. no need to replace RP18.
0ohm means = no measurable resistance
yes all P28 are VTEC, ECUs
