P&P z6 head on a y8 block?
Basically, I got this head on Ebay. I was told that it was for my y8, but it is off of a z6. I got scammed. So now, I have my y8 motor, and this z6 P&P head w/a 3 angle valve job that was done by JG Engine Dynaimcs. Should I sell this head and do the same thing to my y8 head, or should I slap this baby on and sell my y8 head? If I put it on, I will keep my y8 IM for the better flow. Get back to me asap please!

as long as the z6 head is in good shape put it on man! The z6 head flows better than the y8. The only problem is that it lowers compression a little, but some better pistons can take care of that. You will also need to swap the internals from the y8 dizzy into a z6 dizzy to do the swap. This is actually what I plan on doing to my car.

haha nope man and its not gonna be for a while. That was just some long term planning. I need money . I think next will be a chipped p28 ecu with obd1 conversion harness and then maybe for xmas i'll get me some falken azenis and a zex 59300 cam with valve springs. I already have a str cam gear to throw with it since I was planning on buying the cam a while back. Then once I buy a new z6 head and build that i'll throw the zex cam in there.

Yea see I have a built y8 head right now with a Crower Stage 2 and new valvetrain. I dont have the money for the pistons right now, nor do I have a z6 dizzy. What I do have is two z6 heads sitting in my dining room. One is P&P and one is stock. I am assuming my y8 cam will still be good in the z6 head yes? And if you want a spare stock z6 head, PM me, I need to get rid of it ASAP.

if you have the built y8 head already why did you try ordering another one? If you put on the z6 head you wouldn't necessarily need the pistons...i'm just saying they would help raise your compression. The extra flow of the z6 head would make up for the loss in compression from going from the y8 to z6. On a built d series a z6 head usually seems to put out more power. Also I believe your cam should work fine in the z6 head. Probably just have to retard it 4 or 5 degrees I am assuming since to put a z6 cam in a y8 head you have to advance it 4 or 5 degrees.

I have a built stock flowing y8 head. I was supposed to be getting a P&P w/a 3 angle valve job y8 head, but I was scammed and got a z6 head instead. So now, I can either sell both z6 heads and stick with my stock y8 head, or I can put on my built z6 head and sell the stock y8 and z6 heads. So many choices, so little money.

I am not the original owner of the stock z6 head, I am the original owner of my y8 head. I do not know the milage on the z6 head but it is visually perfect!

Would I be switching internals due to it being an OBDI head but a y8 cam? I dont quite understand why I couldnt keep the full y8 dizzy.

I did basically the opposite of what u did. I got a y8 head for my z6 block. It's P&P w/ a 3 angle valve job too. Basically, it bolted right up. The only problems were that i needed to repin the z6 dizzy connectors to the y8 dizzy, which isn't that hard. I'd throw that one on. I got a pretty big hp jump after my rebuild and the P&P head. 21 hp with going from only 9 psi before the rebuild to 10 psi after.

One more thing, if u dont have the IM for the y8 the z6 is different. The coolant holes are different shapes. I just put my z6 IM on the Y8 head with the y8 gasket and haven't had any problems though

Re: (pip9)
I have a y8 head right now, and am putting on the z6 instead. So I will be swapping my IM from my y8 to the new z6. Please walk me through everything I need for this swap.
