Overheating!? Thermostat or waterpump? *Confused*
So I was in thick traffic today and just happened to look at the temp gauge. It was 3/4 to the top! I rushed to pull over and let the car sit for a little bit. After about 15 min, I was going to try and drive it home. Well I was like 1 mile away and it started heating up again. It kind of bounced there and back. I pulled over again and let the car idle, I noticed that when it bogged it shot up really quick and started bouncing. It would bounce back and forth. What do you guys think? I had some overheating problems like a year ago and it turned out to be a air pocket in my radiator somehwhere. Any ideas? Thanks

Is the fan coming on? Do you have any leaks? Is coolant filling up the overflow tank? Have you taken off the cap at start and waited to see if the thermo opens up and allows the coolant to flow? Compression check on your cylinders to eliminate the possibility of a blown HG? Have you tried burping the system? Did i miss anything?

****, all the Hondas are overheating.
Maybe Honda should have marketed these civics more in Canada than the US.

BLOWN HEADGASKET!?!?! The overflow tank is at the min. I will tell you this that I just put in a o2 sensor and I noticed that wire almost got cut up by the fan. I have'nt checked that yet. I'll check all of this stuff. Oh yes when I went to put more coolant in it was already full except for like 1/2 cup. Any more ideas? Do you guys really think my headgasket is blown? Would'nt that be pretty obvious? It was still driving ok.

could be anything. no offence, but you dont sound too mechanically inclined. Do the easiest step first, make sure the cooling fan is coming on when the temp guage gets up about half way, if it starts to overheat and the fan dosent come on, shut it off, and youll have to diagose the cooling fan issiue from there. if the fan dose come on, but it continues to overheat, it could be a stiking thermostat/stuck thermostat. Go and buy one, for about 20 bucks, install it and see if that corrects the concern.

Let me tell you from experience.
Start with the simplest **** first.
Pop your hood.
Locate battery and covered fuse box.
Lift fuse box cover off. Check clear fuse covers for blown fuse, especially in coolant related circuits. $2.50 to replace it.
Then try replacing thermostat.
After that, say expletive it and throw your car off a cliff. Thats what I'm doing.

Ok I installed the new thermostat but now its not working. I installed everything exactly how I took it apart. Anyone know why it would'nt be coming on?
JFYI I have a d15bvtec motor and used the thermostat for a d16z6. I figured they were probably the same.
