Overheating after getting off long drive on freeway
I have a 93 civic EX sedan with auto and I've been having some overheating problems... It only seems to happen when I drive for long periods of time over 80mph and then I get off the freeway and drive stop-n-go. During the next several minutes the temp begins rise almost all the way to H. The only way to stop it is run the heater on full blast or turn off the engine. Car has 168000 miles. Water pump is about 10K mile old since it was replaced with timing belt. Brand new coolant and checked for 50/50 mix. Please help. Thanks!

I would look at replacing your thermostat.

not necessarily. it may be opening enough to cool the car at freeway speeds but not opening enough to cool the car on the streets.
Also check to make sure your fan is turning on.

I 3rd that. My parents had an Oldsmobile that would overheat during stop/go situations. Blast the heat, and it could hold it down for a lil bit. Ended-up being the thermostat.

Sounds like a plugged radiator to me. Take it to a radiator shop and have it rodded. Chances are, you'll have to replace it, but it's worth a try.
