make sure you have coolant, bleed the system, and replace the thermastat. If it still does it, flush your radiator and change your waterpump/timing belt.

we had this problem with the ls\vtec we did and we found that the relay for the cooling fan was bad, you can also find out by revving it up when it starts to everheat, if it cools back down, could be a bad waterpump, or by putting the heat on and turn it all the way up. if it comes back down, another indication of waterpump. check the small stuff first, like thermostat, and radiator cap. the relay is like $65 from honda for the 94 integ. i was working on. so check to see if your fan is coming on.thats all the advise i have, hope it helps.

if youre at a stop and u notice the temp going up its most likely the water pump is going out

before going through all that drain it or whatever then fill up with coolent, not water. happend to me when i overheated and filled with water. temp jumps up when it's sits for too long.

well a water pump install is more for the 'advanced' mechanic

youre gonna need to remove and reinstall the timing belt (might as well replace that too since its coming out) when you replace the water pump

not always..... i just had a **** load of cooling problems and it turned out to be a bad radiator... replaced with new one and no more over heating....

all teh cases i have seen where the car is fine while moving (cool air hitting the radiator) and over heat when it stops ( no air hitting radiator) has been because the fan wasnt coming on. change th elittle stuff first like thermo stat, radiator cap check the fan as well and bleed the system really good. befiore you start tearing apart into a new water pump or head gasket..

it amazes me how many people in here immediately start thinking WATER PUMP lol.

You people know that the water pump runs as long as your car's on, right? Idle speed isn't enough to make a water pump not cycle fluid through the system.

It's almost 100% the fan relay or something. Just go tell us if your fan ever turns on after your car is warm. If your temp needle is also freaking out and going from one extreme to normal in like ten seconds it's quite possible that your temp. sending unit is bolluxed up too. Has it actually overheated yet?

And turning your car off when the temperature is peaking isn't necessarilly a good way to stop damage from being done...in fact, continuing to drive would be best.

wouldnt your motor be DEAD if the pump died?

anyways feel the upper and lower rad hoses (after warming car up) , if one is hot and the other cold. its your thermostat.

also see if the fan even turns on after 5 -10 min. it should.

last, bleed the system of air. and make sure your coolant is 50%water and 50% coolant. you cannot run on 100% coolant or 100% water.

Take a multi meter and check to see if you have 12v going to the fan.

Then check the sensor that on the thermostat housing, it might be bad.

If the fan does work......a quick fix is by taking that same sensor thats on the thermostat, and splicing both wires together. It will make the fan run at all times while the car is on, until you fix the problem. (just a temp fix) also you can put a paper clip in the plug to tie up both wires either way.

Good Luck
