Overheated at a weird time with my new turbo kit..
Hey guys, I recently installed a Greddy turbo kit, other than that, my car is totally stock.
I drove about 100 miles on the turnpike to visit a friend, and my speed ranged from 70-100 mph the whole way. During the whole trip on the turnpike, my car's temp was rock-solid. When I got off the turnpike, it slowly overheated (went from just below half on the gauge to almost the top of the gauge in about 2 minutes). I had the car pulled over and idling when I saw it get to just over 1/2, and it got up to 3/4 and I turned it off.
I checked for leaks, no oil leaks (from the recent turbo install), and radiator coolant was full. I left the car there for about an hour, and since then I have not had a problem with it overheating. I even drove it back home, via the turnpike, but the second time, at the end of the trip, I tried to drive it at 60 for a while, then 45 for a while, then back to city speed, just because I thought that the immediate transition from 80+ driving to city driving might have been a factor last time.
Still no leaks, and no evidence that the overheating ever happened. I'm not dumb enough to dismiss it as a freak occurence, so I'm wondering if any of you might have a possible solution for me
Thanks!

did you remove the radiator to install the turbo kit?
if so you may have had an air pocket in it and it may have worked its way out of the pressure cap while it was cooling off. make sure you arent consuming coolant other than that, drive it till it happens again.

make sure the system is bled properly. that's critical. it can even affect engine performance, since the ECT helps control the amount of fuel delivered.

I should mention that I drove it about 30 miles for little trips around town before I went on that trip.

something like that would've killed me when I was going 90 on the turnpike, not after I slowed down in the city.. also, I would have had problems with it on the return trip, I think. thanks for the suggestion though.
I will definitely check out my manual and see how to flush the coolant lines properly, even though I didn't mess with it at all during the install, I can't think of anything else it could be.
Errr, what if the thermostat cap got stuck open. Would that cause the system to run cooler, or not slow the water down enough in the block to grab heat, thereby causing a slow overheat?

the cooling system is what i was talking about.
do the factory procedure for bleeding the cooling system, and make sure the fan cycles twice.
