Overheating with Oil/water-cooled Turbo?
I recently got coolant running into the center section of my T3/T4, and it's been great. The turbo seems to like it, and spools a bit better. Last week, I was driving home one night on the freeway, boosting on and off, and after I got off at my exit and stopped at a light, I noticed my temp gauge was slowly rising above the halfway point(it usually sits at about 1/4-1/3 of the way up). Since then, it's been getting a bit warmer around here, but I haven't really noticed my temps going up, until today. It was prettyhot today, so I cranked my A/C on, which hasn't happened in a LONG time. Anyway, when I got back from school and got off the freeway, my temp gauge shot up again, whis time to about 3/4 of the way up, and I switched my A/C off, and the needle slowed down, but I could still see it rising little by little. I got home, and let my turbo timer idle the car, then popped the hood to check my coolant level, and it looked good. I felt the coolant lines going to the turbo, and they seemed hotter than usual. I guess my question is, are any of you who are running water-cooled turbos experiencing any overheating problems? The last time I flushed my cooling system was in october, and my radiator is about 5 years old, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Then again, it's a puny Civic radiator...

I could be completely wrong on this buut. Try a better radiator. You have to think that the coolant coming from the radiator is also being used by the engine and turbos run hot as it is, so you have two heat sources right there. The civic radiator may not offer enough cooling space (ability) to cool from both of the hot sources (engine and turbo)

That's what I was thinking. Maybe it's time to look into a Fluidyne or PWR...

I have a similar problem. At idle the car begans to overheat. Ive replaced the thermostat and coolant. I have a fluidyne raditor also. Ive replaced the cap also. Funny thing the cap that came with the fluidyne was rated at 13lbs and the new one fluidyne sent to me is 16lbs. I have not driven my car since i got the new cap. Plus my turbo is homemade and the exhaust side of the turbo sits next to my radiator. I think im just going to wire the fan to stay on. goodluck

Since I put my turbo on my engine temp has gone up considerably. Could be due to the extremly hot manifold putting more heat into the engine bay which is also close to my cylinder head temp gauge.
So I'm going to try some heat wrap before I get a knew rad, and some colder plugs.

where do you have your coolant lines tapped into? i had problems until i put them in parallel with the heater core.

I couldn't find the right size fittings to tee into the heater core line to run it parallel, so I ran it in series with my IACV.

Yup, fan works. I can tell when it turns on cos my RPM will drop for a split second.

got mine at a truck supply co. plastic tees made for heater hose
try that or use your tb heater lines. i bet the way you have it hooked it up is heat soaking your radiator. it needs time to cool off
