ok i have a ls vtec makes 172 whp at 8900rpm and the other day im flogging my car like i usually do and it started to smoke inside the car so i pull over and shut it down and find to my suprise oil every where in my engine bay. when i looked down i noticed that my dip stick was out of its hole im assuming that this is do to excessive crank case pressure it burns no oil and it seems to have a little combustion gasses in the oil it self. pcv is new and pcv system is stock so i guess my question is will a catch can eliminate this problem or should i slap the **** out of my engine builder. i have also noticed that i have been since beating on my car tring to make it happen again and its been good. thanks in advance for any help!!!!!
Mine did that on my b16 swap but it was because the dipstick was a piece. I actually put one layer of black electrical tape around the part that went into the tube to make it a bit more snug and it hasnt came out since.
you should deffinetely have a catch can anyway.....and your dipstick blowing out of the tube is deffinetely not a good thing
Short Story:
1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, my friends car.....18 psi and no fuel upgrades, we couldnt figure out why the car wouldnt run after it randomly shut down on him one night...while cranking the car the dipstick shot out of the tube with enough force to dent the heater duct in his garage, upon engine teardown cylinder #3 had a finger sized hole in it and cylinder #1 fared only slightly better.
hopefully yours doesnt turn out the same way.

the car runs great and has all the fuel up grades and a full tune so i dont think there could be a hole in the piston but i think i will get a catch can or at least make one so i can be re assured that its ok also it hasent happened since and this was about a week ago. i am also wondering is there some adapter where i can get rid of the black box and eliminate the pcv valve totaly or do i have to run my catch can in line with the pcv and black box still attached. thanks for the help
Are your pcv lines run properly? Are the hoses clean?
If you run a catch can, block off the hole on the back of the block where the box was - Advance Auto part # 555104 (Dorman 34.3mm plug) and run fittings ala endyn
