Oil leak = drop in horsepower? Buh?
I have an oil leak in my 93 civic dx that seems to be literally spraying sludge out all over everything under my distributor, including the top of the transmission, all the sensors, etc.
Someone told me that this would effect my horsepower, as the oil pressure would be off. Is this true? I have noticed a drop in power and in consistent idle, but I was assuming it was an ignition or vacuum issue. Could this simple o-ring replacement solve this problem? The idle is really weak/inconsistent, and I think I notice a loss of power from the past.

Re: (EH339)
I'm not asking where the oil is leaking from, I said it was spraying under the distributor, like where a bad o-ring would leak. I'm asking if an oil leak would cause a drop in power.

It seems to me that you should start off by replacing that o-ring, and then cleaning up your engine bay and just generally assessing what else is going on in there. Could it be time for new sparkplugs, wires etc... ? How many miles on your car? Has it been well maintained otherwise? Not knocking you, but if the o-ring needs replacement, then other stuff might need to be replaced also.

Well I know these o-rings are notorious for drying out and causing this problem, but I actually replaced it over the weekend and noticed no difference whatsoever in power, but I did notice that my forever crapped out idle seemed to improve a little bit. This is probably because I didn't put the distributor back on exactly right or something and the timing evened out or advanced or whatever I dunno.
The reason I say that is because I found that I have a oil leaking into the dist. housing, so I guess this would mean that my bearing is shot, and that its time for a new distributor. I'm actually kind of glad to find this, because I've had this damn weak and inconsistent idle for a while now, and I'm hoping this is the cause and getting a new dist. will solve the problem.
Anyway, thanks.
