Default Oil change part 2 (sorry)

Ok... i got all the oil drained by removing the plug. Now im trying to get the filter off. I didnt have the filter wrench thing, so i tryed to use a flat head and a hammer. I Hammer the flat head in but it made a big dent, and just kind of wiggles around... doesnt loosen it up much. and i cant get much leverage since the axle is in the way...Tryed by hand but its on there tight.

try using a rag... otherwise it's a matter of getting a filter wrench...

if it's on there good you're just not going to be able to get it off...

Oh and just fyi...

when you put the new one on don't put it on too tight... spin it till it's snug then turn it 1/4 to 1/2 turn more...

You really just want it tight enough to crush the seal... not to actually torque the filter on.

You actually dont want to hit it with a hammer. you might damage something else doing that. Try reaching the filter from the top, you might be able to get enough leverage on it to get it losened up enough to remove it from the bottom. Try putting a rag on the filter if its slippery.

put the flat head on the edge of the filter and hit the handle on the screwdriver so it turns the filter. if that doesnt work, you can try stabbing the screwdriver through the filter and turning it. i tried it once and i killed the filter and it was still stuck on. u might have better luck though

put it all back together, and turn the car on and let it run for a little bit then turn it off and check your dip stick. 4 quarts should be enough though

i dunno.. 4 qts doesn't make it to the top dot for me (i like it on the top dot).. so just check the dipstick and add as necessary

Near the top dot is just fine, and 4 quarts is ideal.

My car only takes about 3 and 1/4 of a quart. 4 is usually to much for me. And next time you can't get the filter off, try using sandpaper to grip it if your having a hard time getting a hand on it.
