Might sound like a noob but today i was trying to change my oil filter on my dc
so i drained out the old oil that was easy
than time to unscrew the oil filter that thing is hard to take off
i used two different oil filter tools to take it off and all i got was little tug, but that was it, any tips to taking it off

Stick a screw driver through it and turn. Itll give you enough torque to turn the filter.

Honda made a special screw tool that you have to buy at a car store like shucks or something.
If you get that then it will be easy to take off.

It cost like 5 bucks

I just recently had the same problem, all you do is take a long screwdriver and tap it with a hammer till it goes all the way threw the filter. Once the screwdriver is threw use it to turn the filter. It might take a couple of times but it will come eventually! When u put the new one on make sure it is on snug dont put it on as tight as you can.

TOO MUCH TORQUE

if your cheap do like most people say with the screwdriver.. easy to do but you may make more of a mess than the conventional oil filter wrench

yup same thing happened to me, so my friend told me about the screw driver technique and it works takes a lot of banging and oil on the face but hey as long as it get out.

thanks for the great advice everybody, ima try to screw driver tomorrow and let you guys know the results, by the way were exactly on the filter do i stick the screwdriver

Just make sure to remember when you put the new one on, you don't need to tighten it any more than you can comfortably with your bare hands.

just push the screwdriver threw from right underneath so you and turn it counter clockwise then unscrew it!

did you have your oil changed at jiffy lube last time by chance? lol

be sure the gasket from the old filter comes off w/ the filter....wife's accord had the filter on too tight, her father changed oil, old gasket stayed, improper seal = oil leak 20 miles down road, engine seized, had to buy new engine - he no longer does her oil changes.....

Believe it or not, its a pretty common thing for those of us who change our own oil. I remember about 5 years back, the same thing happened to me. I started up the car and started hearing oil spraying out by the oil filter. Quickly got under the car to find the oil gasket was still stuck. I posted what happened here on HT and people said they've done the same thing.

As for getting off the oil filter, if you can't get a good grip on it, I usually stick a couple thick rubber bands around the filter so my hands don't slip as I'm trying to twist it off. Worst comes to worst, do what the others have said with the screw driver....that always works.

I bought a pack of 100 latex gloves for oil filter changes...the stretchy kind. No oil on hands unless it rips a tad and great grip. Tighten new filter with bare hands and loosen it with latex gloves.

try double gasketing a diesel that [freak]in sucks even if its only on for like 3 seconds it leaves about 5 of the 10 quarts on the ground

lol that totally made me laugh too

well i do have great news, the filter did come off but after many hard tries,
i didnt do it with the screw driver that was my last resort, but before i was going to try it i tried something else and it came off

will post pictures of old oil filter tomorrow

that happened to me too! i got about 3 miles down the road and noticed my oil pressure light was on so i shut off the car and coasted into my grandparents driveway that was conveniently the next house. didnt seize the motor though.
