Default Oil change question

I am in the process of changing my oil, but i cant get my filter wrench to get a grip on the old filter, i think they used a filter that doesnt fit into my wrench (i got the kind that goes on the end of a ratchet) anyway, what could I do to get the old filter off if I basically don't have a filter wrench that works??

Thanks!!

ditto.. try to place your body in a postition where u can possibly get some leverage on the filter and just turn it...or if your really desperate.. stab a screwdriver thru it and turn it.. but be warned it can get messy

But there is no real good place to get any leverage, and the screwdriver thing I tried just now, and it was messy, but i cant turn the screwdriver, b/c there is a thing on the axle that is in the way.

It is like a piece of rubber that sticks out about 1" all the way around

Also, how far should I hit the screwdriver in??

BTW, I cant turn it with my hands b/c the tards at jiffy lube who did it last time (I know, I know, don't tell me how bad i am for going to jiffy lube) torqued the drain bolt down so hard I ahd to use a 2 foot breaker bar to get it off, and this is on pretty damn tight as well.

dont waste your money on the wrench... in most cases unless you have it up on a hydrolic lift they are a waste. Its all about eblow-greese man, get in a good position where you can use both hands and work that ****, itll give. Be sure to use jack stands too y0!*

What if I used a piece of sandpaper inbetween my hands and the filter?? Would that help, and I plan on used like 90 grit??

What i am saying is put the grit side around the filter, and torque on that for some extra "traction"??

kinda like a fram sure grip....

Try that and if it fails stab a screw driver ALL the way through the center. The metal is soft so if you stab to the outer edge it may just rip out the metal.

Not to bash, but this is a perfect example why "I" do my own work and "they" don't

You could always go to Wal-Mart and pick up one of every filter wrench they sell. They now sell the wrenches that allow you to use a rachet to remove the filter. They are the best filter removers. And of coure once you use the one out of the seven or so to remove that odd filter take them all back for a refund

I like OEM since yuo can't go wrong there. The oil filter rachet wrenhes ownz the elbow grease way Seriously, it used to be a pain in the a$$ to remove the filter using my hand or the damn strap filter remover type.

When I couldn't get my filter off I used water pump pliers to crush it and that let me get a good grip on it to loosen it.

i would always use a strip of sand paper that is for those modeling sanding blocks... works for me. just get a Fram filter next time, those are so much easier to take off with that grip on em.

Yep, jackstands and everything, im too young to be crushed under a car. I got it off, I used sandpaper and got both hands on it and turned as hard as I possibly could, and i heard a littel noise, and then it started turning. It only took about 1/4 of a turn before there was no force behind it.

Thanks for all the help!!
