oil change interval 99% highway
how would you change your oil if you drive 99% highway?
my civic averages 15,000 - 20,000 kms/ month highway driving
i used to do oil change every 10K but seems the oil still good,
now i change it every 12K
my old 5ton truck have 20,000kms interval but this is diesel
i use synthetic btw
inputs?

I probably wouldn't go over 12,000 between oil changes, not in that climate anyway. On another note, how the freak do you put 15,000 - 20,000kms a month on a civic? Thats between 180,000 - 240,000kms a year! Thats insane.

Re: oil change interval 99% highway
if it's highway, your car really isnt under much load( so your wear is less). convensional oils if you drive like a grandma you can get 4-5k out of them
synthetics i've seen 8k Miles.. btw.. so convert that and your good to go.

Re: oil change interval 99% highway
yah its metric so kilometers.
i use my car for work, it doesn't cost money, it makes money.
i heard that mobil 1 synthetic can get up to 15K miles = 24K kms.
but i think 15K - 20K kms is good interval for highway miles
imagine my old diesel truck, after 5K kms, the oil is already black (because of diesel).

Re: oil change interval 99% highway
You guys have to understand what nececitates an oil change first. Ring blowby of exhaust and unburnt gasoline ends up in the crank case, and both are soluble in conventional oil. In synthetic it just mixes in and gets partially filtered out, or collects at the bottom of the pan. Regardless that crap reacts with all metalic surfaces, etching, corroding, and scoring them. Both also break down - the 'weight' modifiers go, and turn it from 10w-30 to anything in between. You may also notice your milage changing during varying stages between changes, as viscosity plays a role in engine friction.
If you do a ton of driving, and its all very consistent from oil change to the next, you'd benifit from an oil analysis. Its really not expensive, many racers do it. You can collect samples every 2k near the change interval, then send them in. They can tell you how much more life it has, and also if your motor is eating itself.
The military does oil checks on all vehicles to determine oil life, otherwise they'd go through a TON if they changed it when a book told them to do so.

Re: oil change interval 99% highway
damn, that's alot of kms.See if you go by time and mile-age.For the synthetic oil they can go up to 4 to 6 months (time) (mile-age)6 to 8 thousands kms. With that kind of kms your getting a month you should do every month or 2.
and for bmoua.your perfect.keep doing that so that you won't build a gunk inside your engine and good for gas mile-age if you get a fresh oil.
