OBD2B Motor in OBD2A Car issues
So we put a B16A2 from a 2000 SiR into my brothers 1998 CX? Hatchback.
We used the ECU and Harness from the 2000 SiR.
Here are the problems we are having: The tach and speedo dont work. Reverse lights dont work. Fan wont turn on.
Did some research but couldnt find much. Found out the prolems are being caused because we are using an OBD2B ECU and harness but the dash wiring is still OBD2A and some of the pinouts are different. Also read that we should not be able to show a CEL, and that the motor may run like crap. The motor is burning oil which we did not notice when it was in the SiR.
So what is the EASIEST/CHEAPEST way to fix this?
- Buy a OBD2A Del Sol VTEC ECU and engine harness
- Buy a OBD2A Del Sol VTEC ECU and use an OBD2A to OBD2B jumper harness (would this work?)
- Buy a OBD2A Del Sol VTEC ECU and use the stock D-Series harness and wire in vtec (would this work? would other sensors/plugs fit?)
- change the dash harness to OBD2B. How hard could this be?
Any other suggestions?
Also, what is the code for the OBD2A Del Sol VTEC ECU ?
Thanks for your help guys.

If you want it to be as painless as possible use a '96 - '98 Si coupe engine harness (same as USDM EX) and a '96 - '97 Del Sol VTEC ECU. You can't use a Del Sol harness, its 2 piece like '92 - '95 civics and '94 - '01 Integras.

well thx for letting us know about the 2 piece thing for the del sol harness. do u think we should just use the stock d series harness and get a an obd2a to obd2b jumper harness and use the obd2b 99-00 sir ecu that we already have?

Its entirely up to you. Either way will work. This way its more work, but for less money. The SiR harness btw is worth money, I wouldn't cut it up for connectors, sell it and cut the connectors you'll need off something at the junkyard.
