o2 sensor readings? Need opinions............
Ok so I have a 2000 civic dx and i did a dc header swap on it and got an ex cat converter and stuff and everything is cool. I did a wire extension with 14 gauge wire to lengthen the o2 sensor, and everything bolted up and everything is good until...........
After a day of everything working my CEL comes on and it reads a code 63, which is secondary o2 sensor as you know. I reset it and again after about a day.
Sooo why would the CEL come on after a day of driving instead of right when i start it? Doesn't make sense to me.
And does it matter that the wire I used is 14 gauge instead of 16 or whatever honda uses? Different resistences or something?
I know my cat works and my o2 sensors work so I need a little help and some opinions. Thanks.
Here is a pic of my car so that people will look at my thread:

63 - Oxygen Sensor, Heated - Sensor 2 (Secondary) - high voltage, low voltage, or slow response
I'll ask the obivious questions first...
How did you insulate the wires?
are you positive they are not rubbing on the exhaust?
Larger wire will not do anything. But unshielded wire will.
If you look at the OEM wiring it has a wire shield around the signal wire, if the O2 was almost bad to begin with placing the extension on the wires without the shield could cause the ECU to see a bad signal from the O2 and set the code.

Re: (Relic1)
i did notice that wire shield and didn't know why is was like that, how am i supposed to lengthen the shielded wire? Right now I just have the main wire part under the shielded part connected to the 14 gauge wire.
Can I get shielded automotive wire from any local hardware store or is it special in some way?
And can someone explain to me the difference between codes 2, 63, and 65? They all have to do with the secondary o2 sensor but I dont get what 63 and 65 mean.
Thanks relic, I'll check my wiring but i need a little more info too, and yes, I did make sure to route is so it isn't touching exhaust or heater hoses.

Re: (B18C1 '96 Coupe)
How much did it cost and where did you get it? I've found a couple of those o2 simulators online and they were like 60 bucks! Screw that!
Could you post a link to where you got yours from and how much? I was thinking about getting one but I'd rather have my o2 sensors ACTUALLY monitering my engine.

Re: (WildPig)
The first one monitors the second one check to make sure the cat is working thats it. So simulating it does nothing. DO NOT simulate the front. That is what monitors your motor.

There is nothing to bump. The problem is simple. You are running a cat that is not "doing its job" in the fashion that the O2 wants to see. You will need to either get a new cat that works better, or run a simulator. PERIOD. The only other option is that you didn't wire it correctly, which should be obvious.
