I am new to the board, and to hondas. i have a 97 civic dx hatch. when my car is turned off, and the headlights are left on for more than like 10 mins, my battery dies, and will not recharge when i jump it off and drive around, ai think my alternator isnt functioning properly, but i really dont know much about this stuff. ALso i have a few questions about terminology. EK, EG,... all those abreviations, what do they mean? JDM=? i would really appreciate some help pronto. thanx doods

EG-SI(rII)

Check the ground on your alternator. Civic chassis codes: EF '89-'91, EG '92-'95, EK '96-'00, EP '01-'05; you have an EK. I the code for 06 but the SI makes me, swoon just a little though. JDM- Japanese domestic manufacturer. There is also a search option on the top right side of the main menu. If you have any questions, search whatever it is you want to know, it usually turns up with good results.

If you want to find out if your alternator is bad, I heard Pep boys and other places similar will do a check for you for free.
