Default New tranny in my 94si(hatch)

Any info that can be provided would be a lifesaver!

I've tried searching the forums about transmissions for my d16z6, and everyone says that I should go to the 96-00 EX transmission. So I tried calling a few used parts places around here.. only one shop has one, and the guy I talked to on the phone was a ********. He said he needed to know if I wanted VTEC-E or VTEC, and that the transmissions aren't interchangeable. He said the VTEC one is $450 (used) - is that a ripoff, or is it just me? In one thread I saw, everyone was talking about having bought their ex transmissions for $100 or less.

So am I looking for a VTEC or VTEC-E transmission? I'm not even sure what the difference is, hoping that guy was just a bozo.

if its a 94 si hatch, you have a vtec, not vtec-e, and any d series trans will fit on a d motor...vtec or not, and you can get a entire d16z6 swap for like 400 bucks, so 450 is way high just for a tranny

you're looking for a D16Y8 (96-00 EX) transmission. all D-series trannies are interchangeable (VTEC, VTEC-E, and non-VTEC...). you might want to check the Classifieds for one. i think a D-series tranny should cost $200-.

the reason you're looking for a Y8 transmission, because it has practically the same close gearing as a Z6 tranny, but stronger shift forks.

Z6 tranny - aluminum shift forks
Y8 tranny - steel shift forks

man, I called every place in the phone book... only two salvage shops had one, one wanted 450, one wanted 350 with core trade-in. My dad says the high prices may be due to being in the city, and that I should try to phone some places in the boondocks. Any thoughts?

the v tec e stands for econcomy versio witch is the vx and hx, and trying to find a ex tranny for a hundred bucks is a shot in the dark. like the other guys said all d series trannys are interchangable and you def dont want the vx or hx tranny cause they suck, a lot of guys go with the 96-00 ex tranny because they have the steel shift forks. youd be lucky if you found an ex tranny for around 200 cause my buddy sells dx trannys for like 150 so.... you get the point
