New guy with some questions about a 93 civic with a gsr swap, What hp can this swap handle?
Hey guys, I was looking at a nice looking 93 civic with a gsr turbo motor. Heres the list of mods.. Is this amount of power going to be reliable, he said 380hp on pump gas. Will a setup like this hold together or should there be more work done? What are these cars worth with a nice exterior and interior, at least general price range.. are these cars worth 10k? Thanks everyone, Holmes

It's a hard question to answer.
If everything was built RIGHT then it should hold together in theory, but with boost anything is possible. An injector goes bad, leans out a cylinder, and the engine blows up, etc.
The car probably has over 10k invested in it, but is it worth paying 10K for someone else's project car? IMO no, but everyone has his own opinion about stuff like this.
If I wanted boost I'd either build it myself, or purchase a built car from someone I know very well and knew exact details about the build.
Do you know the seller very well? Do you know all the details of the build, like for real, or are you going by what he's saying is done?

BTW if the topic is also trying to determine if the car is worth 10K then pics would help us to help you determine that.
If this built engine is sitting in a bucket of a car, then no it ain't worth 10K.
If the chassis in good shape, no rust, good paint, etc. etc. then that starts to sound more and more like a better buy for 10K.

Hi, no i dont know the guy personaly but the car is local to me and i plan on looking into the build and figuring out who did it, where it was tuned etc. My question what is the standard for the max hp these motors can handle and still be reliable? Ill try and attach a pic it looks like a nice car...

the car has no doubt over 10k put in to it , its up to you to pay all of it, and the setup sounds like it should handle it however, at 17 ( depending on what size turbo) the engine isnt going to last as long as it would without the turbo. but good luck man the setup sounds beastly.

This particular question would be best answered in the forced induction forum, but before you post a stand alone topic about it try a search under recent and archived topics in the Forced Induction forum with key words being "reliable" " how much boost" etc. etc.

huh dont know why that reposted like that, ill check out the forced induction forum... I want a daily driver that can be a beast but i dont wanna be working on it every weekend. What does a car like this sell for on average? And there isnt a max hp these motors can handle on stock sleeves or does it just vary that much.

Re: (holmes14)
Be aware when purchasing a car like this, its only worth 10k to someone that wants to pay that.
The car kbb.com wise is not worth 10k.
But, its apparent there is 10k worth of parts in the car.
So if you buy this car you could only resell it more than likely to someone like yourself. Or look for trade.
It doesn't have much of a open market value.
Looks good!

the reliability at this point depends on the tune that it has.

very true!
it might have been build in a poor fashion and won't last when you take if off his driveway
or worse!
for all you know that car could be stolen (or at least the parts)
start from scratch imho...

with a turbo motor pushing 400 hp you never know whats goign to happen.
it could last 10 years or it could last 2 days.
its a gamble.
with a car pushing 400 hp and not knowing any history on it then i would not buy it.
for that car posted i would if i were to every buy a civic pushign 400 hp i would pay him 6k...
for 10 k i rather go on k20a.org and buy a very clean swapped EK k20
