sounds like you didn't connect someting back right. The constand + 12 is probably shorted or not connected.
If all looks ok check all of your connections any loose crimps or bad solder.

is the cd player you're putting in an aftermarket or an OEM piece?
if it's aftermarket make sure that the yellow wire off the back is connected to battery voltage....12V+ constant=12V+ regardless of key position
radio wirez...yellow=12V+ constant
red=switched 12v+
if you switch the 2 you tend to lose all your setting like audio adjustments and radio presets and your clock setting

maybe you pinched a wire back there and it's brushing or something. I remember when I installed my stereo there wasn't a ton of space. I know this sounds dumb, maybe you can try just pulling the stereo out and putting it back in, being careful for the wires?

sometimes aftermarket radios have a fuseholder built into their harness...and some have a small fueholder right where the main plug plugs into the back of the unit itself....
if you have an interface harness from metra or scoshe or the like, unplug it and make sure that none of the pins are bent in the end of the plug...
if everything passes the visual test...make sure the wires are not pinched at all and get a multimeter and start testing wires
i would like as much info as you can give...the year and make of the vehicle, the radio manufacturer, model #...
