Icon2 Need help with driveability problem.

Just finished first build. boosted d16z6. Hondata s300. Fired up first try and runs well at idle. It is running without IC piping installed. When I accelerate to WOT the RPMs won't go above 3500 and it has no power. drives normally without heavy throttle. MIL is not on. Im pretty sure this is a timing problem. I used a crower cam gear and the part number indicates that it is used for 92-00 civic. It also doesn't have the 3rd mark on the cam gear to line up with the pointer on the plastic cover. When I installed it, I used the old cam gear to line up the marks with the lower 3rd marker and then replaced the stock cam gear with the new one. If I redo my timing belt should I line up the two upper markers with the head like the d16y8? I adjusted my cam gear 5 degrees advance and it didn't seem to make much difference. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Sounds like a MAF issue. Or I might still be in Nissan land...

in nissan land, it would be cutting, sputtering, and popping something horrible lol (had a sr20set s13). I would go with timing, if it runs fine on non heavy throttle then it may be ign timing. If the base timing was off enough to notice if would run bad all the time. But would be worth it to double check.

MO look at your program. If timing is off i would think it wouldn run very well in any throttle position. 3500 is almost like limp mode. will your car go over 3500 under normal exceleration?

No. Part throttle is ok and any more than that it seems like it is misfiring and won't accelerate. I am pretty sure it is the timing. The d16z6 cam gears line up with a 3rd marker on the gear and the plastic cover instead of the 2 parallell markings like the d16y8. My cam gear dosn't have a 3rd marking. I am just not sure where to line up the cam gear. i guess turning it counter clockwise will advance the timing. I am going to tear down the TB and advance the cam a little. (stupid crower) Stupid me for buying it. Thanks for your advice and input.

If you have another distributor that you could throw on I would try that. I had my cps go bad before and it wouldn't let me go past about 3500 rpms, also had a slight backfire like yours

That generation of nissans won't go over 3500 RPM if the maf has a problem.I have a B13 SE-R.

It helps when your intake valves on cylinders 3&4 are operating. I found 4 of my rocker arm adjustment nuts sitting in the head. nice job with with the valve adjust.
