Default Need help, 95 ex no start after tranny/flywheel job...

***FIXED***

Stock 5-speed 1995 EX

I went and pulled the tranny out to replace a bad ISB and installed a new flywheel on the motor. I put everything back in, hooked all the **** up and it won't start. It sounds like the starter is trying to turn or something else is trying to turn but it can't. When I jack the car up both drive wheels can spin freely and independently in neutral, when I put the car in gear they still spin freely except together so if I spin one one way the other wheels spins the other way just like before.

It gives off like low pitch quiet brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr as I try to start it.

I can post a video if anyone would prefer that.

Any ideas???? Can the flywheel be stuck???

If you wan't more details please ask.

Edit: Replaced flywheel with ACT 12lb flywheel; stock clutch (No alignment tool so I had to improvise the best I could because no one freakin sells them.)
and Replaced worn input shaft bearing.

Edit: I can turn the crankshaft by hand and the flywheel/clutch rotate so I don't think they're stuck...I don't wanna drop the tranny again...

Anyone help?

This is kind of a crazy question, but are you sure it's the right flywheel? Does it sound like the starter is spinning freely? Or is it just a solid click?

You may not have installed all of the grounds or your grounding points are corroded.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the right flywheel. I checked with around 6 different sites before ordering it.
I ended up ordering it from here: http://www.directtuning.com/store/pc...0-05-sohc.aspx
If anyone wants to double check it, the flywheel part # is 600120. I checked with multiple sites all recommending the same flywheel for the 1995 EX.
It bolted right up with no problem and was torqued to 87lb-ft, the clutch also fit perfectly over it.

The starter isn't spinning freely, more like a solid click I guess. It sounds like it's trying to spin but can't. It's like if you took a drill and held onto it so that the motor can't turn and squeezed the trigger it makes a low pitched whirring noise similar to that. I thought the flywheel may be stuck at first but I can turn the crankshaft my self no problem, just takes a little muscle, so I shrugged that off.

I'll double check the grounds, I may have missed something last night.

I'm starting to think the starter may be bad but I don't know how it could go bad, I was very careful with it. It wasn't hit or dropped and I kept it in a good place.

A bad ground could cause this problem. I've seen it before. I've run an extra ground lead form the negative terminal on my battery to the starter itself.

How long was your car under? Maybe the battery is weak.

Got around to double checking the grounds. The tranny ground wasn't too great so I sanded down the metal a bit and cleaned it up. Solved the problem.

Only thing I didn't solve was that the starter was actually bad I just don't know how it went bad cause I was very careful with it. I had Autozone test it and they told me it was perfectly fine but when it was in the car it would not do anything but smoke and smell like it was on fire. So I don't know what the hell Autozone was thinking when they said it was good. Got it replaced and car starts up perfectly.

Thanks, first transmission job so I never would have thought about the grounds.

Glad you got it running. The grounds are very important as you've discovered

As for the starter, it may have been one of those situations where it was in bad shape and pulling it off "messed" it up. I have no better explanation than that!
