Need advice!!
Ok, finally got to look at the '93 Si today. Here is the scoop: '93 Si, 129000 odometer miles, 137000 reported by owner. Says speedo hasn't worked for 2 years (hasn't really driven it in those 2 apparently [got a rustang]) and was quoted 250 to repair it (sensor works, faulty gauges). Body is good, tires good, suspension/bushings good, 1 punctured tail-light that won't pass in my state, hood doesn't latch nicely because of "too much greasing, needs to be degreased" (any ideas?). Mechanically sound, drove well, exaust rattled a bit, interior perfect, paint was chipped in a few places, clutch felt strong, and compression read as follows (psi): 140, 125, 150, 160 (what is spec?). Also - doesn't have any paperwork (receipts), said he's too unorganized. I know he's not ripping me off, he's a friend of a friend and I highly doubt he'd do that, but again it is a bit shady. He's asking 3500 for it as-is. I really love the Si and I'm set on it for now (no money for swap) so don't say "get a CX/VX/DX." Please just tell me if you think I should demand repairs rather than having to get all that stuff done myself. If I take it as is - what is a fair price? Should I make him repair the major things? Is the low compression in 2 too low? I certainly won't pay $3500 for a car I have to repair to drive legally, just wondering what you all think. Thanks!

I would just save my money and keep looking for something better and more well taken care of. If you don't want to then I think $2,800-$3,000 would be a fair price as long as thats all that is wrong with the car.

save your money and look for something else. i got a 95 civic cx for like 3500. it had one owner. except my car has a dent in the fender and door. the paont was mint, so was the interior. the odometer for my car says 130,000 but the lady put in a new stock engine and it had about 35,000 miles on it. he had all the paper work to prove it to. so i got it. the car you descibed needs to be fix and stuff. i advise to look somewhere else. if u want it tell him to fic the repairs and u'll buy it for a lil less if not till him to drop the price alot cause sounds to me you have to get it fixed alot to get it working right. hoped it help

hmmm, $3500 seems like a lot for a 93, even if it wasn't in that kind of condition.
If your really wanna put the time and money in to fixing everything, then go for it
but I wouldn't pay $3500

Thats about what they go for in Virgnia. The cx and dx sells for that price. I would say buy it if you don't have money for a swap. Factory vtec, sunroof, pwr steering,CLOTH seats with better carpet and rear disk brakes. The si (stock) is a great car for auto-x etc.

$3,500 is too much for that car in the condition you listed.
That compression check is WHACK.
For that kind of money there are other options you could go for and have a better car.
You said don't say get a CX, VX, DX, etc., but what about this?
Buy a CX/DX/VX for like $2,000 (they are out there, but you have to be PATIENT!) and then get a SOHC VTEC swap from someone who went DOHC for like $500-$650? Then you'll have a nice car that could be in better shape and be FASTER than the Si because the CX/VX/DX is a good deal lighter.
I've seen 4 of my friends find CX/VX here in GA for $2,000 with A/C and in great shape in terms of interior, body, and running order.
If you are TOTALLY set on an Si (which you may regret later on - I did) then keep looking for a better one for the same price or better.
Book value on a great Si hatch for 1992-1993 is only what? $3,200?
