Default The mystery of the unjumpable ECU....

Dear Nancy Drew,
My car's been sitting for almost a whole month, various modifications...
I double check everything, and fire her up today.
Besides the battery being dead and me having slight trouble turning her over she finally does.
I'm taking her around the block a few times when I get hit with a CEL.
So I stick a paperclip to jump her, turn to ignition and it blinks once, (not a short or a long blink) but like a normal blink you would get if you didn't try to jump it.
First I thought it was a long blink so I figured oh "10" then the blink never came back, just like if I didn't jump the ecu, simply priming the car, interesting.
I then take the paperclip out.
So I start the car up again to visit a friend, the CEL's gone!....5 mins later it's back on the drive there.
I turn my car off at my friend's house, and later turn it back on and it's off again!...on the way home ~5mins, it's back.

Help me solve the mystery, thanks!

o2 sensors will throw codes but not really

the code on my p13 would hardly ever store for ANY amount of time, the car wouldn't run any differently though and it was related more to it running rich than anything......

you saying the o2 sensor was bad?

because it wasn't.....replaced it and all.....an overly rich mixture at any rpm will cause it to throw a code, but most obd1 ECU's won't store it....you turn off the car, the code goes too.......just from what i've seen anyway......when it was cooler outside, not as humid it would hardly ever do it.....when i leaned it out with a vafc it never did it....without the vafc and in 100% humidity/75+ degree weather, it would do it a couple times a day

that isnt exactly a bad o2 sensor. but it is a sign of a failing o2 sensor. so you may need to get one in the future

Do you have a rechipped ECU?
