I would say for your budget either a D16z6 or a B18b if you can find a B18b cheap close to you than go for it, if not than a D16z6.

I'd buy a cheap O.E type clutch such as a Daikin(sp?) or Exedy O.E clutch from Worldpac or S.A.V.E (Service and Value Expeditors) and continue saving money for a swap in the meantime.

Trying to go cheap on a swap usually ends up bad, and you'd probably always feel like you wished you'd have saved up more money and gotten what you really wanted.

$1,000.00-$2,000.00 is not a lot of money for a swap in the car. The only swap you'd be doing might be a D16Z6 or D16Y8 swap if you find someone selling on privately. Those swaps still fetch about a full $1,000.00 from salvage yards.

You already have 102hp - do you think that the 125hp or 127hp that a SOHC VTEC would offer will be enough over stock?

if ur clutch went out, just replace it with a cheap brand or something if ur gonna swap the motor soon.

as for the gutting, i dont think it would make much difference in weight if u wanna keep the seats etc.

just wait for the motor, and itll be worth the wait

ok, i dont know what the hell ur talking about with the $1000 swaps for like a Y8. i had a mint Y8 for sale, complete for 700 bucks with 75k on the motor and a fully rebuilt tranny, so ur getting ripped. and i also had a b18a just laying around that i had given to me, so LS motors arent bad either.

but my advice to you trigga, is that, no offence, you dont know what ur doing with yer hatch. if u paid someone to change yer axle, and yer saving up to do a motor swap, then there is a problem. you should just stick with yer little d15 and be happy with it. in all seriousness, if and when u get a motor swap, and something goes wrong, what are you gonna do?? call a shop and bring it down there?? before you go jumping into an engine swap, you should really think about whether or not its really worth it. motor swaps are money pits, trust me, i know. i dont mean to be a rick, but you should weigh ALL yer options before you make a decison

Rer-read what I originally typed. I said most yards will be asking roughly $1,000.00 for D16Z6/D16Y8 swaps and that unless he found a private seller (you make a good example) selling one he'd be going well over $1,000.00 to get it into the car.

Also I said in the car meaning that if he's paying labor then he's definately nowhere near swap money for $1,000.00 even if he buys a $700.00 SOHC swap because even side jobs cost $500.00 or so and shops charge anywhere from $800-$1,400.00.

Hey Angry, try not to be so angry when you post.

didnt mean to be angry, but hey, i know a guy (or two guys, me and my buddy steve) who would do one for a hell of a lot less than that. but i guess alot of people who do work on the side rip people off. either way, i dont think he should do a swap at all. but if he does, i do know where u can get a very clean low mileage b16a2 2000 spec for under 2 grand.....

I hate to be a dick, but who are you to judge whether or not he should be doing a swap?

Not everyone has the time, tools, or mechanical inclination to do a swap. Just because a person might fall into this category doesn't mean that he or she isn't "worthy"of a swap IMO.

I would save for a swap. Do it right the first time. Unless you plan on being a hard core dragster, I would not gut everything. Take seats and spare when you do race. My hatch is gutting up the zing zang and the extra noise sucks...
