My buddies 96 Del Sol won't start
ok people, i am lost. it's not my car, and i have never owned a honda. maybe someone on here has had a similar issue.
my buddies car just did not crank one day. it sounded like it wanted to, but nothing. pulled the starter, had it tested, and it failed. replaced starter, still nothing.
got on this website, and found it could be the main relay. checked relay, it checked GOOD.
now, this is where i am a little lost with this thing. there is a new distr. cap, new rotor, new coil, igniter tested GOOD, new wires and plugs. what the hell??
the starter spins, but it doesn't seem like it's catching the flywheel. we had it checked, it's GOOD. all of his fuses are GOOD, in both places. could it just be the distributor?? would that happen normally on these cars?? oreilly's parts store guy said that hondas are notorious for burning out distributors.
i'm just trying to help a buddy out. his post is under camaxx05.

LOL....check timing...well i have had the same issue with Hondas i worked with one being a 96 del sol...that i have yet tested all the faults...but it always came down to distributor cap cables or the distributor itself..in this case i will think its the distributor Honda makes shitty ones and they cost a arm and a leg...IM NOT A HONDA GUY AT ALL..but for some reason honda people cant fix there own cars..lol...i just replaced a caliper, and the bake lights on a 2007 accord..quality my a$$ ..lol..but it should be the distributor...let me know if it was...

ok, al the belts and pulleys turn when turning the key. there is just not any spark. i have determined that it's the distributor. just waiting on my buddy to fork out the money for it.

Does the CEL stay ON when the key is turned to ON(II)?
Is the distributor connector getting battery voltage when the key is turned to ON(II)?
If the answers to the above questions are No and Yes, then recheck the coil and ICM and their associated wires.
Also, have you checked the important ground wire attached to the thermostat housing?

the car is not getting any spark. all grounds have been checked, all good. in a couple of weeks, i will have his distributor. i'll set the #1 piston up, install the distributor, and pray.
