Default Disc Brake Upgrade Question

I have a 2000 CX hatchback that I put rear discs off a 92 Integra, the front disc came from a 98 ex and I also swapped the master cylinder from the 98 ex. My question is do I have to change the the proportioning vavle or is the stock one okay? I don't feel much diference unless I really stomp on the brakes and you can then feel the increase of braking.
Anyone on e know?
Thanks

yes you do need the 40/40 99-00 si prop valve. rear drum prop valves send way too much pressure to the rear brakes, which will cause tem to lock up, worse and worse at higher speeds. i slammed my 94 cx turbo ls into a wall at 120 because of this. please swap the prop

'92 - '95 yes, swap the proporting valve, with one from a '90 - '93 teg actually, the Si prop valve is set up for small front discs. However, the part numbers for the '96 - '00 CX/DX hatch and '99 - '00 Si are identical, so swapping it would be pretty pointless and a complete waste of time and money.

Good call. Drum brakes = constant pressure in line due to prop valve. Change it to a disc prop valve, and use a disc master as well from an integra or an si. Bigger brakes need more fluid to operate correctly, therefore a bigger master is needed.

u dont need to change the master cylinder from the EX one. It's pretty much the same. Only the prop valve.

(please corresct me if im rong, this is from experiance)
the only way to check if you need to or not is the size stamp on the MC. if it came off a civic with drums its 13/16inch (EG or EK). you want a 15/16inch MC for a disc swap. all EG, EK, and DC accept type R which is 1inch. i had this problem with my itr 5 lug and brake swap. going from 13/16 to 15/16 is a majour difference, ESPECIALLY with the corresponding proportationing valve. untill i got the 1inch when i was able to afford it. even that was a huge difference. and its not much bigger than stock DC. theres no comparisson. pull the prop valve off the same car the MC came off. and if memory serves correct 13/16MC and 15/16MC have opposite bolt patterns. you might need the brake booster aswell.

Again, to reiterate you do not change the prop valve the CX/DX prop valve is identical to the Si prop valve.

Part numbers from majestic honda:
CX hatchback 220473
DX Hatchback 220473
Si Coupe 220473

Your question is confusing, are you asking if the prop valve is different? (its not) or the MC (it is)

i dont mean to be confusing. but the 13/16MC (civic 92-00) prop valve (220473) be the same as the 15/16MC prop valve (integra 94-01). since the rear brakes are a bit lager. not sure what the distribution difference is.

I'm still not sure exactly what you mean. The MC (master cylinder) and prop valve (proportioning valve) are 2 seperate things.

The reason the '92, '93, '95 civic Si's used a small 13/16MC and the integra's used a 15/16MC actually has to to do with the integra having larger front brakes. The rear brakes are the same in both cases.

Agreed, to the OP just leave the prop valve alone and worry about the MC instead.

interesting... i totalled my 94 cx because i failed to swap the prop valve, so it was always important to me. i swapped the valve on my 95 gsr when i did the abs removal, and i bought a 99si prop valve for my R when i did the brakes on it. apparently i could have used the 96cx prop valve i had layin around? what about the ex's? did all 96-00 civics have the same prop valve?

Yes

The EXs use a different prop valve, i'm not sure how the ABS ones are setup, you'll probably have to cut and flare lines, or replace them with DX lines, the non ABS versions have a different prop valve but you should be able to swap it out for any 6th gen non ABS prop valve.

No. The CX/DX hatchbacks and DX/Si coupes all came with the same prop valve, the DX/LX sedans came with a different prop valve, and non ABS EXs came with yet another prop valve, ABS EXs had something totally different I believe.

'92 - '95 are different from '96 - '00 are different from each other, even externally they don't look alike at all. '94 - '01 non ABS look the same externally as '92 - '95 civic versions IIRC, I don't have a '94 - '01 non ABS integra here to look at or i'd check. The '94 - '01 non ABS integra prop valves are also 4040 IIRC, the civics are usually 3030 for front disc rear drum setups, or 3035 on the Si hatches with small front brakes and rear discs.
