My 2000 Si is in the shop - Friggin Syncros- how many had to fix these...
My 2000 Civic Si is in the shop. Its been grinding on the 4th to 5th gear shift. Goes "chunk" every time. I took her in for my 30,000 mile check up and told em' too check it out. They ordered the parts, next day air and i should have the Si back tomorrow. ---I love my Honda dealer!!!!
Replacing lots of stuff on the warranty. most of my syncros and gears will be new
Can't wait to get her back especially since 30,000 mile checkup. They adjusted valves and everything.
How many of you have had this repair done??

Yeah my tranny is about to go too. Grinds EVERY single time I shift from 3rd to 4th going into vtec. I'm sure im not covered under warranty because I've switch to a ACT clutch. Does anyone out there know if this voids my warranty? Anyway there is a bulletin about the 99-00 si tranny, its a sort of silent recall i guess. It states that these trannies have been know to grind due to syncro problem. Here it is if you need it http://www.filebox.vt.edu/users/echi/Grinds!.pdf

I was always told by every single company I have encountered that the only way a manufacturer can void your warrenty is if they have hardcore evidence that proves that that modification did screw the syncros up . But since so many people are complaining about the same problem . I don't think its your clutch but the transmission.

Your warrenty is bumper to bumper for 3 yrs 36 K . Hell if you have to , have the beotch towed if its reading 35,998 and then tell them to look at it . But like I said earlier they have to prove that the clutch was the cause of the syncro failure .

My 2000 Si is sometimes stubborn about going into 1st gear. Could that be problems with my syncros?

when i throw it into fifth from four and i am in vtec, my gears grind. i don't know what the hell it is but it grinds. hell i always thought i may be going to fast, not the car, and not depressing the clutch all the way but this is the only gear that the car does it in. my car also blows out black smoke when i downshift from fifth to fourth or fifth to third on the interstate doing about 60 to 70 mph. i have a 2000 si, any comments.

That should not be a syncro problem, all honda tranny's usually do that. I've had that problem since the 1st day i got my car, also had probs getting it into reverse. Just shift into 2nd first, then slide it back into 1st.

I have noticed the hard shift in other manual transmissions of different manufacturers . Where you go to put it into first and it won't slide in the gate . I usually just pop back into neutral , push the clutch and like VTHokie said go it second , or any other gear then go into first . I think its a manual trans thing . But grinding I don't think is a typical manual trait . Get it checked out before your walking .

Yeah 1st and reverse have always been goofy. Ive found that sometimes shifting from 1st to 2nd at redline grinds. but hell, mine was grinding into 5th from 4th anything above 3000 rpm. That when i decided it was probably time to get it fixed under warranty. Since my warranty is over at 36,000 miles and im at 30,000. Still can't wait to get the car back tomorrow.
I got a metro for free as a rental
besides my metro rental <--haha my honda dealer as i said above "KICKS ***" . They always hook me up and never give any grief for warranty stuff.
