Re: Motor Oil (ScubaStevesVtec)
15w50?? wtf?
10w30 is fine, but for winter 5w30 wouldnt hurt (5w30 is thinner, so it doesnt coagulate(sp) as much as the 10w30.
I'd always stick with either 5w30 or 10w30.

VP ($10 quart) or Amsoil ($6 a quart) i would go Amsoil and definitely get an Amsoil Ea oil filter. Its overkill but its well worth it.. you would only need to change your oil once a year.
I will tell you that amsoil has a lot of additives and usually when you use it, they reccomend you use one of their filters, which are fantastic. There large, swirl, and will go for 12,500 miles. The oil in tests doesn't begin to break down until 8000 miles, where normal oils break down at 2-3k miles. Amsoil uses quite a bit of phosphorus in its oil, which some say may oxidize older engines, but they are refering to iron motors from the 60s. Our engines are all aluminum, and thus not affected by it. This oil does have all appropriate additives and is a real synthetic, meaning it was made in a lab, rather than refined from the ground. synthetics have been around for 50 years, and why more people dont use them is either cost (but amsoil is cheaper in the long run) or maybe they are just not informed.
As for VP, i couldn't tell you much about them in detail, I have just heard that they are really good.
VP: http://www.vpracingfuels.com/R...BAAD7
Amsoil: https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx
its recommended that you dont put oil additives in these oils.... they dont need it
if you wanna go cheaper get Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 and get Lucas Synthetic additive and that should be good enough for hard driving but yea Amsoil =

Mobil 1 Synthetic 10 30 is fine. You don't live somewhere where it gets really cold, so that should work.
I swear by Mobil 1, it's what I've always used in motorcycles and cars. Only because of it's great viscocity.
I'd do a search for this though, when the search feature comes back up.
When the search is available, I'm going to search why the search is sometimes not available.

Amsoil can be a bargain when you purchase with a Preferred Customer Membership. Check this website for steps on how to sign up and save money. The savings is usually 20-25% off retail. http://www.modernoils.com/Purc....html
The EaO filters are very high quality. Most Hondas will use either the EaO13 or 20.
EaO13 = 16.45 Preferred Customer = 12.50
EaO20 = 15.10 Preferred Customer = 11.50
That ASL 5w-30 runs 6.35qt but had be bought for 5.00qt or as low as 4.75 when purchased by the case as a preferred customer. These prices are lower the what Mobil1 has been selling for around here. Now up to 5.36 at Wallys.

Is castrol syntec a true synthetic? I remember reading that in was not a pure synthetic oil, unless the certification seal on the back stated it was made in germany, or porsche approved. Have you heard of anything like that before?

Castrol makes part synthetic and full synthetic... one is cheaper than the other obviously
5 quarts of the part synthetic is $13 and 5 quarts of full synthetic is $20

A reminder is that the only true full syn Castrol would be the German Castrol Syntec. The rest contain mostly blends of GrpIII base stocks.

Re: Motor Oil (ScubaStevesVtec)
I would never use mobil 1 15w50 on a honda motor. Too thick. Either mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30 will work. I usded 5w30 super syn for my b16 when i had it.
I now use mobil 1 15w50 for my m3 as i needs a thicker oil.

Re: Motor Oil (HyBriDcxR)
i head good things about mobil 1 as well, but amsoil would be the better option.
only reason i dont go synthetic is because i leak a quart of oil every 2k miles, so i think id be wasting my money until i fix the leak
