Default mod options for a '96 4-door civic ex?

A friend of mine is looking to do some mild bolt-on modifications to his 1996 4dr Civic EX. He has the stock engine.

Does anyone have any suggestions on any well performing exhaust manifolds and mufflers that will fit without any major fitment issues?

Thanks!

heck ya!

First and formost, you can always do the Intake Header Exhaust...

If you want to spend a bit more money I would hightly suggest turbo charging. Kits range from 1500 (greddy) to 3900 (Drag 3 or Apex). Of course if you are really smart, you will hit the forced induction forum and learn how to build a junkyard or pieced together turbo.

If you dont want to mess with boost, you could do a B series swap. Genearlly costs about 3k or more, but much easier... less tecky

I suggest searchging for threads about the "Civic Ferio" which is a euro-only 4-Door Racer. Very cool, i would build one if i wasnt' planning a Subaru

Hope that helped. And for those of you who dont like 4 doors...

what specific brands will fit this car? he's looking at mild bolt-ons...so nothing drastic like a turbo kit.

how to the dc headers and greddy headers fit?

is it possible to use a jdm piece with a larger collector?

DC & Greddy both make good quality stuff that'll fit right.

Are you talking about a JDM header ( it's 2AM & I'm a little slow on the take here )

yeah, exactly...a jdm header...just trying to see if they do in fact have a larger collector.

would even a '99 or '00 si header fit and also make some hp? i'm just trying to gather some options.

kepani-who is tired too...but probably not as tired as uncivil is at 2:00 am

No, I don't believe a 99-00 Si header will fit on the D16Y8. As far as the Jap. spec headers, yeah, I think they do have a larger collecter, but the down pipe won't bolt right up to a USDM cat. Besides that, and the fact that you would pay a lot more pesos for a JDM header, I think you would be better off just sticking to DC Sports, or at least a header made for U.S. engines.
Chris- who just took a caffine break and is somewhat more awake now .

I agreee, for the money the DC header will work the best, although... if comptech is available i would buy that.

An AEM Cold Air intake should also add lots of power. If you are smart, you will do the "Do it yourself" cold air intake from jdmfan.com (makes more power for way cheaper if you do it right)

Then do a thermal R&D exhaust... possible a gude head package and cam gears.

Now you can get an APEXi VAFC to control your VTEC and Air/Fuel flow

If you want to get a little more drastic, find out how much it costs to get your head milled to raise compression to 11:1... that will ad more power than the other mods i would imagine.

Since it's SOHC, and maybe in the future you want to do a swap, then I would do some suspension mods. Damper/camber/strut/sway/tie/wheels...etc. Just my opinion.

personally motor mods without suspension mods is nothing..work ur way up..if mild is ur game now i suggest an eibach pro kit w/AGX s..aem CAI ..and DC headers with a custom 2 1/4" exhaust w/magnaflow muffler and resonator..however, there are many other combinations u can consider also..dont expect neck breaking performance but the driving experience will increase alot
