missed 4th gear last night....
i was in the middle of a race (against a 240) and i missed 4th gear and apparently went into 2nd. i have an h22a with p28 chipped and my rev limit is 8500. my passanger saw my tach when i mis shifted and said that he saw me burry the needle. with my rev limit set at 8500, do you guys think that i could have done some damage to my motor?

Yes, you could have very well screwed something up.
Thats what you get for street racing. You screw up your car, and make yourself look like a shitty driver.

learn how to shift correctly
you definitely messed something up by missing 4th and going 2nd
when you misshift at redline, as soon as dropped to 2nd, youre engine was probably reving around 10k-11k
youre lucky your engine didnt blow up or shut off but im pretty sure something is wrong with it
try ripping it to redline again and see what happens

even if my rev limit is at 8500 you guys still think i could have messed something up? i've read some forums where people **** close to 8000 on stock h22's all day.

but like stated above when u caught 2nd it prolly jumped instantly to 10-11k the rev limiter has nothing to do with that. it just wont let it free rev any higher than 8500. but when the wheels are spinnin what 80 mph? and u shift to a gera that prolly only goes to 45 mph it is gonna turn the motor past your 8k rev limiter.
p.s. those speeds where only example speeds so dont flame me if they are off.

how smart is that, your street racing and you have a passenger. boy, you guys get smarter everyday.
yes, mis shifting could have fucked something up. how does it drive after the race? your lucking you didn't blew your motor or tranny, seen it plenty of times.
here is some helpful hints for you next time:
1. learn how to drive, Jr.
2. keep people out of the car when racing, before you kill them in the process of killing yourself.
3. keep it on the track!
i decided to post some stories of people who had this tragedy happen to them. hope you learn son.

how the expletive do you got fron 3rd accidentally over to 2nd?? ive never maged to do this, and when i still had my jetta, which was fast enough to race, the only kinda mis shifts i'd get is hand slower then foot type shifts, and you grind... INTO THE GEAR U WENT FOR!
Does some1 slap your hand towards you when u shift 3rd to fourth? STRAIGHT THE expletive DOWN, dont grab the damn shift **** with all your might and try rip it off slamming down because you have to as strong as vin diesel to race.... I keep a flat hand at the sides of the shift ****, and drag id down, rotate wrist around, push up diagonally, rotate wrist around so i'm pulling down again etc etc.

Re: (coupe99vtec)
does ur motor make n e strange noises, lack of power, shift smooth or rough, leaking fluids??, my best bet is u possibly have bent valves if ur motor is running shitty. knocked ur timing off or messed up ur engine internals. if it runs ok, then check everything to see if everything is good

Re: (EM1_ChRiS)
the only real thing u could of messed up is floated a valve waht kind of head work do u have done? when u float a vlave your valve stays open to long and when your piston comes back up it hits and bends the valve, but if your car runs fine u shouldnt of floated a valve...

I did the same thing and hit around 8500-9000 on my A6 and here are some pics.
This is with about 2 hours of trying to get the head off the block, it seized to it.
Here is a big picture of my crank, remeber 9000rpms or atleast thats what my tack pegged out at is alot of an A6.

The engine was good enough to drive for 3 days before I lost so much compression that I couldnt even get up the hill in my driveway. Wish I would have took pictures of my head and valves.

it's fine..your engine is fine, if there's no knocks or ticks don't worry about it - **** happens..
Happend to me when I drove a RHD Rx-7 (5th to 4th) - but I didn't pop the clutch like u did, it iddn't even fully engage b4 I noticed something was definately wrong as I was watching the tach shoot up, but I clutched again b4 it even hit the redline so I don't know..
**** happens sometimes, guarantee nothign's wrong if there's no ticking or tocking or knocking....
don't listen to half these pple about "Taht's waht u get for street racing" and **** - I hear what ur sayin...next time watch out what ur doin tho, could have bad results...
If they were bad you would have noticed them already..

Re: (philosofy1)
thank god for everyone on this thread that has grown up or are just smart enough to keep the racing on the track where it should be. Why kill someone f*&@ing off. If you have to prove yourself or your car hit the drag strip or the auto x.

Re: (FastAzzCivic)
not everyone is blaming him or this on street racing. just trying to tell him to wise up. the links i posted were links about people who have mis-shifted and blew something up.
