Default Aftermath of a mis-shift :(.

Here is the motor with it's Toda pistons before the tragedy:




After an unfortunate 3-2 shift at 9,000 rpm






Finally, after Dan Benson resleeved the motor and IB Jeff hooked me up with some pistons






Car is up and running as strong as ever. Time for a trip to the dyno

oh god, that makes me nervous, makes me want to get a long throw shifter. Man you f*ckin' decimated that piston.

only 9k? and it did that? what caused it....i shift at about 9,800k when i drag and havnt done anything like that yet...or were you at 9k when you hit 2nd instead of 4th?

9000 rpm in 3rd gear is alot more than 9800 in second with mechanical over rev from a mis-shift.

Yes, hit second instead of 4th. I figure the engine hit at least 12,000 rpm.

It is funny how the piston hole is the perfect shape of the number 1.

Anyway, that is terrible. Hope the new motor works out well for you.

i've seen plenty of burned and shatered pistons before, and to me it looks like he drove it home, then to the bank and then to benson's, i'm suprised the wrist pin didn't pull out and shater the piston,
ohh well the new motor looks awsome

lol. I wish. I am down to only three blocks.
Two for the Civic and the motor pictured above for my Integra. And I only have two good heads left, three if you count the one Brad has. The head that was on the car when I mis-shifted is scrap.

And you know I will post numbers when I hit the dyno, Jason

Death was instantaneous. Huge cloud of smoke and the engine died. Would not crank. Clutch was toast too-would not shift. Was in South Central LA when it happened

A rev limiter is no use on a miss-shift. The ole motor looks good as new though.

Mechanical over-rev. Shifted from 3rd to 2nd. Rev limiter only cuts fuel, while going into the wrong gear puts the weight of the car into the over-rev. I've done it, probably most road racers have at one point
