MISS SHIFTED!! Engine makes weird noise??
So i was driving my d16z6 coupe on the highway (clutch is already going.. but i have a new one sitting in my room).and i miss shifted. wanted to go from 4th-5th but put it into 3rd and tach hit over 9200 i quickly put the clutch back in, but it made some noise and didnt want to go into gear so i just coasted..but i eventually forced it into 3rd, so my clutch is toasted. and i was looking in my rear view mirror expecting to see a big smoke cloud thinking i blew my sohc z6 vtec....
but to my surprise it survived?? i barely got the car home 10 miles away..keeping it in 3rd.. motor seems to be OK..wasnt smoking..doesnt seem to be down on power from what i could feel..so i parked in my driveway and tried to listen to weird noises.. i couldnt hear any noises such as rod knock or valve noise. but there seems to be a Howling noise from my short ram intake?? any suggestions on what this could be..maybe i didnt notice it before and im paranoid..? oil change? prolly a Compression check 2mrow..this is the 1st time its ever happened..

do an oil change first and check for shavings or particles in the oil... Also make sure its not milky at all....if you check out ok there it should be all good..

how u hit 9200 in a z6, were u at like 6k RPM in 4th? when u change ur oil i would use a one of the magnets to see how many metal flakes u got and prolly invest in a magnetic oil/tranny plug to get the rest of the metal flakes outta ur oil pan/ tranny

haha nothing wrong with HIGH rpms.... hey when i did that i blew a 6" long 1" wide hole in my exhaust (stock) the DAY i bought my eg hatch... but hey 2 weeks later i put custom exhaust on... so all good!
but uh yea check your oil, and my car makes a pretty good howling noise from the intake so that should be normal just your car breathing man... and for the love of god just suck it up next time and replace the clutch

oh theres also 2 more holes the size of golf ***** through the back of that block too that was due to clutch slip in my buddys car hitting the rev limiter 3 or 4 times on 4psi with precision 550cc injectors walbro fuel pump and basemapped ecu. the holes arent due to it being turbo the holes come from over revving

Yeah its [freak]ing nuts.. its a z6 for christ sake. 7200 redline. . i was 100% it was D O N E! i went outside cuz i forgot my cell in my car and started it up 20 min after i parked it and it sounded fine no new noises.. checked underneath no leaks... what i wanna know is how the hell is that possible. on a stock z6... it has some kinda chipped ecu in it..who knows maybe the guy before me upgraded the valvetrain..lol.. but it was 7100 in 4th.. i dont care bout the clutch cuz it was [freak]ed anyway... i just cant get over the fact that the z6 didnt blow up.

Re: (.Grimace)
motor is fine for some reason. i do have a rev limiter. its set at the factory 7600.. i know its chipped cuz there is no governor.. rev limiter doesnt make a diff when u put it in the wrong gear! its mechanical and your tranny just brings the rpms along for the ride rev limiter or not.

Re: (hamilton_civic)
Factory is 7200 I believe. And yeah, it doesnt matter what your rev limit is set to if you mechanically overrev.
I would just change the oil and fix the clutch, it will prolly be okay.
I went from 4th to 3rd on my boosted ls and thought I blew up my engine, it probably was at about 8.5k rpms (stock rev limit is 6800) but it didnt mess anything up.

Re: (kuja396)
yeah well. i was most worried about the motor cuz im tight with cash, and i have my new stage 1 clutch/ oem exedy flywheel sittin in my room awaiting the death of my old clutch.. so my buddy and i are going to install after work. is it really possible to not damage anything at 9200 in a d16z6 vtec? or was i one of the lucky few..
