miss shift from 2nd to 1st at 5k
I was being a jackass the other day and went to shift to 3rd and hit 1st at around 5k from second the car went to over 8k before I could hit the clutch. I was not to concerned until I begain to read about members doing the same thing and burning up the valves. I checked the plugs and the seemed a little fouled, but I did not run the car for around 5 weeks so that could be the cause. What should I do should I get the compression checked??? Would the plugs tell anything in this situation??

Get a compression test done?
May I ask you how you managed to go from 3rd to 1st without trying? What were you doing exactly?
I don't think you have anything to worry about if your compression is fine. Leaving it at that high of RPMs for a considerable amount of time will do damage but as long as you engaged the clutch right after it happened you should be fine.

Re: (bgoetz)
should be fine. it's only a single-cam, after all. not to mention an 04 d-series tranny. long *** 1st gear anyway.
EDIT: unless you got the m4d TiTe JdM k-SEREeZ sw4p y0?

I drove behind a woman in a red car and she shifted from 5th to reverse in a cx. I don't know how she did it. All I know is she nearly caused a 3 car accident. So I believe it's possible to money shift like that.

I haven't seen a manual cx before, but isn't 5th right above reverse? If it is, then she was just stupid and thought she had a sw33t 6th g34r y0!

Like I said before. If you're really worried about it, have a compresson test done. And I doubt that checking your plugs would have given you any information. Just a the pain and time of taking the out then putting them back in.

Doesnt it lock the reverse when shifting from 5th to reverse?

is your valvetrain making any crazy noises?

I can't even go into first gear after my car rolls. So how is it possible that you can engage first gear at a high speed.

blown synchros.

EDIT: Plus I don't think he said he was at high speeds. He said "@ about 5k in second gear."
This is a single-cam with minor bolt-ons we're talking about here. ...not to mention a lot of wheel-weight.

Re: miss shift from 2nd to 1st at 5k (bgoetz)
5k in 2nd in my car is about 50mph. I CANNOT get 1st gear in, like after 20mph, it doesnt go in. I hear a whine, and cant get the stick in place. Its like a safety feature.
So yea, compression test. Check the valvetrain visually if ya want,. take off the valve cover, and do all that ****. Better to replace **** now then replace a lot more later.

He was trying to go INTO 3rd (from 2nd) and put it back into 1st. Can't say I've ever done it myself, but it could be done. I've meant to go into 5th (from 4th) and put it in 3rd... somehow I always seem to get back on the clutch before the revs get up though.
Get a compression check done and be careful next time.

Re: miss shift from 2nd to 1st at 5k (revolution8k)
ofcourse you can put 1st trying to shift 3rd, obiusly if you try to put it it wont enter to 1st gear, but its because you doen't want it to enter to 1st, but when you are shifting the tranny goes to 1st like water, you have to be very very fast to notice it before the engine rev up to the sky hahaha
and that is on all hondas, because i have friend with h22, b-series and d-series and all of them have put 1st going to 3rd, at least one time hahaha, if we are racing we do the famous "POWER SHIFT" (or something like that) shift very very fast with the gas pedal fully pushed hehe

Re: miss shift from 2nd to 1st at 5k (Civic_SiR_S)
i have never stuffed it into 1st so far; i have been driving for 5 years now.
after i nearly ruined a transmission "powershifting" i realized it was pretty dumb of me to do the kung fu shift.
