Default should i be worried.....missed shift!!!

Today i was in third gear at 8000 and went for 4th only i fd up and went to 2nd, it made a horrible noise, but no check engine light and its idling normally. I was just worried about messed up valves or something but has this happen to anyone? And do you think its fine?

Do a compression test and report back with the numbers. If you don't have a compression tester you can get one at most any auto parts store. Do a search to find instructions.
