Default Making the connection?

Anyone have any idea how these two fittings go together? Do they just pop in and I'm being a *****?

Clean out the hardline with a wire brush, it looks kind of flithy in there. Pop it in and start threading it. BECAREFUL not to cross thread or strip any of the threads.
