Why? Can someone actually elaborate on this, so it doesn't just seem like random babble.

Why OEM.. well OEM is matched to the bearing and crank surfaces.. When you build the motor there is a certian tolerance or gap that it has to be within.
Now with the OEM as long as your using the same Caps and crank they will fit just right, With Standards ACL, and other brands they give you a set which give you a middle of the road fit so no matter what the surfaces are they should fit within tolerances sometimes on the low side some times on the high side. So lets say someone sold you a used crank from another car.. You cannot use the OEM unless you know what the corresponding fit from that block is use to fit on. Since cam caps are unique to each block. so you use Standards
I have personally installed ACL Bearings on a few motors and have no problems at all and they have been on the low side of the tolerance levels.

just talked to that guy that is going to build my turbo block and resleeving it w/ aebs and he said he prefers the OEM bearing over ACL.. oem = 250 acl = 150 spend the extra 100$ and know they are perfect for the block!

why don't you search, I used acl bearings in my build because everything I read about them was good.
