the new delima for the week...

i was on my way to work last nite and as i was pulling out of out apartments the car just dies (no sputtering or anything weird...just cut off). i tried to start it back up but nothing...it cranks but doesnt turn over. today i tried to check out what was wrong and found that the fuse for the pgm-fi main relay was blown, so i replace it and try to start again and find that it blew out again. anyone have this problem happen to them???

well the only thing i really changed on my car was hooked up my turbo timer...i dont think that it would affect anything would it??? unless something in the ignition switch has something to do with the PGM-FI.

if anyone knows what my problem might be please reply or shoot me an PM. Thanx

ive been reading up on some problems people were having with their PGM-FI main relay going out...might have i have the same problem??? would this cause the fuse to keep blowing out???

you obviously created a short somewhere in the system...

Check your wiring.

yeah, sounds some wire has grounded out.

I'd start checking around the motor first.

i checked in the engine bay i didnt see anywhere where it could be grounded out...i moved the injectors a little bit the other day...maybe one of the wires inside the harness gave out from old age???

I'd check whatever you changed last...

Something is shorting out... I'd get a wiring diagram for that system If I were you.

My bet is it's something it whatever you wired in most recently.

the only thing i wired recently is my turbo timer...and it was straigt to the ignition switch. i didnt think it would have anything to do with the pgm-fi

The black/yellow ignition switch wire goes DIRECTLY to the pgm-fi computer to power the fuel pump... if there is a short in the ignition switch it will pop the fuse...

CHECK YOUR WIRING.

just curoius if a faulty relay would cause it to blow fuses like that and keep it from starting??

aight just checked all the wiring...everything was good...the fuse is still popping though. i found out it only pops when the key is turned to the on (or starting) position and not when there is no key in the ignition. i also changed out the whole ignition thing just in case there was a short in that. i cant think of anything else. i tried to use a bigger fuse (went up from a 15 to a 25)...when i used the 25 it wouldnt pop but it still wouldnt start. i also changed out the pgm-fi main relay under the dash. still nothing.

someone said i might have a faulty fuel pump. any thoughts on this??? or maybe any other ideas that it might be.

problem fixed, found 3 power injector wires all touching ground in the main junction box...rewired everything and now i dont think i will have this problem...what i did to find this short was; Hook a 15amp circut breaker to the PGM-FI Fuse location.....turned the key to the on posision...and unplugged items...this would narrow it down, but in my case i had to get the wires to start smoking before i found were it was shorting....rewired now and everything seems to be great
