LS Turbo or LS NA? If you're thinking about staying NA on the LS, stick with the D16 and turbo it, otherwise, the LS will yield ALOT more power than the D16 will on boost.

Re: ls vs. sohc vtec (VTC_slow_CiViC)
I am actually in the same situation. I dont know where to get a b18b and keep it NA for now or just stay with my d16z6 turbo until I can get a b18c R swap.
I think im going to stay turbo.

Re: ls vs. sohc vtec (JDM93Eg)
from what little info I have found(I was considering and still am about doing this swap) a ls n/a seems pretty quick in a eg. Some say they have ran 14.5 with i/h/e and a b16 tranny...thats not too bad...

You can also look at it this way. Virtually every B-series part is more expensive and harder to find than any D-series part. So if you blow your SOHC its like a $300 repair where-as if you blow the B its a going to be at least double that.

Used to have a sohc and now have the ls motor. Hands down no comparison the ls is by far better anyway you look at it. The ls has more torque and mixed with turbo is a street beast. keep in mind that the ls is better to boost also because of the compression which allows you to run higher boost on stock internals

Why does eveyone think lower compression will make more power because you can run higher boost? Think about it.... You're just making up for the loss of compression. And the lower compression you gothe more psi you have to dump into the motor to make up for it. Hmm so? what does that matter? Well it makes everything less efficiant, that means you are loosing power. Many people do not realize this, thats why they bitch when someone wants to boost a typeR engine. If you think i'm full of **** thats fine prove me wrong.

If you are going to keep the B18B NA, don't even bother. A boosted single cam VTEC will eat the "worked" LS alive...
So many people are boosting their D16's and putting out extremely respectable #'s on stock internals. You will never get this with an NA LS motor...

How come no one mentions a head package set up for the SOHC. They go for about $1300-1500. And they will give you huge gains and aren't too expensive. Am i missing something here cause that sounds like a good idea to me.

Re: ls vs. sohc vtec (CRXSleeper)
I stuck with my SOHC. I spent around $7000 all together between having a motor built, hondata, and turbo. I can get up to 300hp or more(lets not try 220 is enough).
I didn't build it myself. So you can do it for alot less if you did it. I can work late at the office and easlily pay for the extra cost so why not let a shop do it I say. Plus if anything goes wrong I got someone else to blame it on
But hey you got to do what you want. LS would probably have more torque for daily use. The SOHC you have to gun it all the time to get it going. Which I do find to be a pain if I have to drive in traffic.

so all in all, an ls is better to turbo if you're not gonna go all out and want to stay under 10lbs of boost with stock internals.
