Loud *** exhaust!!??
Hey guys, I just had to put a new motor in my 97 LX. I had a Gredy 19t kit on it with type 31fmic, HKS ssq, and Profec e01 boost controller, but it overheated on the way back home from my folks over Christmas. The head cracked and the block warped around piston 1. Anyhow, I have a new motor in it and ended up getting a DC ceramic header. I have a Magnaflow hi-flow cat and a Magnaflow SS Exhaust right now, but since I added the header, its loud as hell. Is there anything I can do to quiten it down besides getting a silencer? Any suggestions of other mufflers to try? Your input is appreciated!!!

dont know what experiances you had with taking your cat out,
but it made my car even louder, and sound like crap, but it was
totally pluged, so I didnt have a whole lot of choice.
about the whole resinator thing, I have 2.25 mandrel bent
piping, with a es oval muffler, and a an-r dseries header,
I had to punch the cat out, and I hate it! I have a few extra
aftermarket exausts laying around and was wondering if
I could weld a resonator in place of the cat, or would that be
too close to the header?

ditto on the resonator, it'll take the raspy/loud/bumblebee sound right out. I've got a similar setup (high flow/2.25 pipe/magnaflow) and the noise/sound was almost embarrasing..... + resonator and all problems are gone...

you could put your turbo back on to quiet it down
oh btw: Elwood how do you like your an-r header on the d series? How does it compare to Bisimoto?

ur headers are going to allow for a higher volume and velocity of exhaust..u wouldnt want to do anything thats going to slow that down..what u want to try to avoid is anything thats going to slow that down
i visit d magnaflow s website and one of the remedies was to use a round freeflowing muffler as resonator..this will work just as a muffler would but wont slow down the velocity of the exhaust as a reonator would do

sorry to keep quoting you in these threads,
but, I thought that a resinator changed the flow,
and didnt slow it down. I have a es oval, so its
supposed to be small and quiet, but its way too loud
for me.
Will a resonator in place of my cat be too close
to the header? Or should I just do straight pipe
in place of the cat and do the resonator further
back?
The an-r is crazy. I wish it had some type of coating
that didnt come off right away, because I spent
so much money on it I cant afford to have it powdercoated
or something that would actually make it look nice.
Performance wise, it felt a lot better, no dyno sheets
to prove anything, but it felt better. I had some
shmucks weld it because I was in a hurry and dont
have my own welder, and it leaks like crazy from the flange.
