Icon4 Looking for input on D16Z6 Head build

I'm ready to build my head (block is next)

I'm about to order but I want to get some confirmation that I'm doing the right thing here, just to be sure. I'm still kind of new at this.

COMP 59300 Cam
COMP Springs and Retainers
Skunk2 Cam Adjustable Cam Gear
Skunk2 High Compression Valves
Supertech Valve Guides

Am I missing anything like required seats or seals or something?
Or is that it?

Looks like you're in the same place I'm at. If you're getting new valves I recommend you take it to your machine shop for a valve job. They will match the head with the new valves so you can be sure they are seating properly. And yeah you might need new guides and seals depending on how much play you have on each valve. I believe most engine rebuild gasket sets come with valve seals, but not guides.

Edit: What are your plans for the rest of the build? You going to boost it or what?

Does that mean I have look for some sort of rebuild gasket kit?

I'm going for a high compression N/A build. Head, Block, suspension and mounts, hondata tuning, air/fuel/ignition/cooling etc... Car was inherited so since it was free, it will be a looong project and maybe if it speeds up I'll swap the HC pistons for LC and go turbo in the end.

p.s. I have a really good shop that does all the work.

No you can get a set of valve seals by itself, but since you're doing all this work you're probably going to need a whole engine gasket set anyway and they usually come in that set. Look for "engine gasket set" in some of these online part stores.

Or just buy oem gaskets and there not exspensive.... A z6 N/a motor is a waste of money and time.. You will have the same power as a bone stock gsr motor for much more money into it over just doing a swap. Now boosting a Z6 is always a good choice and the way to go.

Oem Cam on a Z6 is good for 400+ hp (so you will be wasting your money)
Supertech valve springs
Port and polish the head

Not trying to be a dick just telling you the truth

I never said I wanted to be faster then everyone else, nor did I give a horsepower goal. This isn't for competition. Think of it as a high end tune up.

And ok I will look into a gasket set.. Thanks.

And port n Polish question.. Skunk2 offers oversized valves. Should I use them instead of stock size with a port n polished head?

You would be better off doing a b20 swap and selling me your motor for cheap lol...

A b20 with 84mm high compression YCP pistons and a tune will net you more and be fun for less money. But Oversize valves will def increase the CFM flow in the head but if your not going for much power might be a waste of money. When you can get a b20 and ls trans for 800 bucks around here I wouldnt waste the time. You could have it running with new parts for around 1600, and would move pretty good too..

I'm not sure taking an OE engine and turning it into a high strung monster is considered a tuneup.

Realistically, some of these guys are just trying to give advice as to where you *could* go for a lot less and make the same power.

But, I do agree with some of these guys, new guides, seals and whatnot would help you in the long run.
