JDM D15b Vtec and USDM D16z6 compatability?
I am looking to build a D series, SOHC turbo engine. I have looked at using a replacement block to start with in the d16z6, but the price for a D15b from Hmotors is really nice. My question is, what are the specs on the engine. I have had alot of trouble finding info on this engine, and when i have it has been inconsistent and i have been unable to verify any of the information. Also, what is the compatability of this engine as far as the components go. Will i be able to get rods, pistons and so forth for this engine. Will they be the same as far as matching with the z6. if anyone has built up this engine or has any advice or information is would be greatly appreciated.

The D15b is basically a D15Z1 block with a D16Z6 head. The compression is higher, and the cam is more agressive than the Z6. It is rated for 128hp and 105 ft/lbs of torque I believe. I have one, and I personally prefer it to a D16Z6.

What he said ^
Also the D15B has the VX 137mm rods, and I believe the pistons are the same as the Z6. The head is nearly identical to the Z6 with the exception of the cam.

The pistons are more like DX units. I had to use DX rings when I freshened up my D15B. The DX rings are thinner than the Z6 units.

My turbo kit will be here Friday or Saturday. Mine has less than 10k on it so I'm sure it will handle the 8psi I will feed it with. The most important aspects of engine life under FI is fuel management and intercooling. The D15B has a good rod ratio so stresses under boost will be handled well, but I think the rods will be insufficient for much more than 200 WHP with agressive shifting, and around 230 WHP driven responsibly.

don't mean to jack your thread but I was wondering if z6 aftermarket parts will work in the d15b such as cams, springs, retainers

I don't know about the length, but the big end diameter is the same as the D16Z6 at 1.7707 inches. The book I have states the big end diameter of the VX rods is 1.6526 inches. I also think the pistons are standard PM3 DX units.

Yes, but anything less than a stage-2 cam and you will be losing power.
