Default jdm d15 vtec question

ok i had some problems with my vtec. so i hard wired a switch with led light to interior, hooked it up, with one wire to batt, one to ground and one to green/yellow vtec wire. drove the car until temp was norm. hit 4800 rpm and the light on the switch comes on. so vtec is getting power, but i can't hear anything spectacular (i know on a sohc it isn't much, but u should hear the difference). now my question could the solenoid be bad? if so, is there a differnece in the d16 one? by the way i have a 3 inch piping intake, airmass headers, highflow cat, custom 2.25 madrel piping to a dnx muffler, msd cap and external coil, apc wires, ngk iridiums, b&m fpr set at 40-41 psi, and a jdm ecu. and if anyone has a video to let me know what to listen for i would appreciate it.

my friend has the same motor and i don't hear is vtec at all. if your not getting any codes, your vtec is more than likely working.

i don't think your going to hear vtec like you do on the dohc motors.

i have a gsr motor and sometimes i don't even hear when vtec kicks in. as long as you feel it, then you shouldn't worry about anything.

I've never really been able to hear an audible difference at the VTEC engagement point on a single cam engine, except for ones that were modified well beyond the standard bolt-ons. If the solenoid was bad, then VTEC wouldn't engage at all. Disconnect the solenoid or put in a P06 ECU and see if there is any notable difference in performance if you want to be sure.

thanks, it's hard to tell if i can feel it, i notice that the rpms jump alot faster but i don't get eased back into the seat. on my wifes protege with a dohc when u stomp the gas u get eased back into the seat and i know i have 10+ hp on her car. it just seems weird
