Default intake imporvements....

hey everyone yea i gotta cold air intake and well before i install it i gotta tell my dad because hes the one who fixes the cars around here and he is not really 'down' with racing or anything like that. so i was wondering, wen i tell him i am going to put my intake in hes gonna prolly say y do u want it becasue ur not suppose to be speeding, so basically my question is wat does the intake do for a engine besides more power? i heard somewhere that the cold air helps make ur engine last longer because cold air always makes a engine last longer and hot air can make ur engine break down at a early mileage. i heard that on a site cant remember which one, is that true or false? and wat else does it help with???

Honestly, an intake does little more than make noise.

If you and your parents (who I assume you still live with) are going to argue over it, then leave it be. Having a super stunariffic ride isn't worth fighting with the people who put a roof over your head.

I think it fools the ECU in thinking cold air is always running thru it and then that prolongs engine life

is it just the intake pipe or with the filter??

if yes then tell your dad like:"you dont need to change the air filter and it save a

bucks"

A cold air intake won't prolong engine longevity.

Just replace your stock filter with a panel filter. It's cheap, works a little better than stock (like most intakes), and is reusable, should make your dad happy.

if you put this on, don't drive through deep puddles..... Bad **** I tell ya... search hydrolock

infact here is a good link on it
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=877178

but yea all a aftermarket intake does it make noise, some people like it, most likely your parents won't and they will tell you to knock it off when you accelerate. Hell it's a good start on mods but if your going to run into alot of slack from your parents that pay for food and your roof pick food and roof it's much better than sleeping in your car....

so this is a proven fact, better gas mileage???? and i think ill just put it on but the noise part is a little tricky, my dad likes to use my car cause he drives a truck or my moms old car, a oldsmobile, and he likes my car better for the sound (i spent money on my sound upgrades already) i spent money on sound and now i wanna make my car faster thats y i am starting with a intake

also this question is from wat freezerburnv2 said, i saw the forum and the water getting in his car, if i put a air bypass valve on my intake will this still happen to me? or will the valve be able to stop this, and wat does the bypass valve do mainly?

its a sponge in a way, it will help but not guarrantee against hydrolock. an intake will make a motor louder but not much under normal driving conditions. WOT may be a different story tho... I say just get a short ram and call it a day. Thats the most basic upgrade that can be done

Just drop in a Spoon air filter and leave it at that.

My car has over 150k miles on it and its a 99 civic...runs perfectly fine with stock intake...never been changed or nething. Just keep the engine good...use mobile one synthetic every 2000 miles...

As for the intake, cold air intake = more air flow & more power. Thats pretty much it other than the noise increase.

G/l with ur dad...just tell him ur a teenage with a car capable of being anything you want it to be...I know it sounds bad to ur parents but its the truth... No matter what parents do to stop their kids, they'll never be able to hold them back from doing what they truly want

If ur dad passes the intake...do the simple I/H/E setup
