idle surge - think i found the problem?

idle surge - think i found the problem?
i have reserched on h-t to find out why my idle is surginf in my b18c1 with a single stage itm and no charcoal canister... i read that if you plug up the aicv hole inside the tb, and the idle drops really low that means the idle adjust screw is too far out... is this it? would this be the reason my idle is surging? any help would be great

Usually it's surging because of a vacuum leak, a dirty/Bad IACV and/or FITV.

If it's surging and goes to normal when you plug the IACV hold in the TB that means that the IACV needs to be cleaned or replaced. Also, check to make sure your coolant has no air in it, that will confuse the IACV since it works on coolant temperature.

i just checked out that link... the one that drops the idle when i put my finger over the hole is the lower one, if its the same on the gsr tb as the one on that site then its the fitv. . . does that mean its stuck?
how do i go about making sure theres no air in the coolant?

I'm not sure if it's stuck, but from what that article says the valve on the inside can become loose, so if you tighten it a little that may help.
You can let the car idle with the radiator cap off and wait for no more air bubbles to appear, refilling the coolant as you go.
Or if you have the bleeder bolt on the coolant outlet where the upper radiator hose connects to the head you can open that (while holding a bucket underneath it) and wait until a solid stream comes out before closing it, then refill the coolant.
From what I've read, the FITV going bad is common at the later mile stages. If you have any kind of crap in your coolant then those two valves can get gummed up pretty easy. I would hit the local scrap yard to find one, or you can go to http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no
