idle problem and runs rich
I have a 93 hatch with a b18c swap. I runs rich and idles up and down. The is no CEL. I think it may be my IAC. The CEL doesn't stay on with the key in the run position without the car runnin either so I don't know if my computer will even throw a code. Can someone help me?????

Re: idle problem and runs rich
Rich plus bad idle usually means your timing is off, same problem with my hatch when i got it. And most likely the bulb is pulled for your CEL. Other culprits could be FITV, IAC, TPS, and vacuum leak. Check the timing on the cam gears and get back to me. Also if you search these problems have been outlines numerous times on this site, but hopefully i helped.

yeah you did. the bulb is in my CEL cuz it comes on for a second then goes off with the key in the run position. The CEL will stay on if I put the computer in a closed loop. I will check the timing again tonight when I get home from work. Previous checks it showed to be perfect timing

Check the cam timing, making sure they're both lined up. Too much advancing on the exhaust side will make your car run really rich. If the cam timing is good, and if the engine is at TDC, pull it back a little bit to see if that makes a difference.
Otherwise, check your FPR on the fuel rail.

If the cam timing is good, then also check the ignition timing using a timing gun.
As already mentioned, check for intake air and vacuum leaks. If you completely cover the top of the throttle body with your hand while the engine is idling, does the engine die or keep running?
Air trapped around the coolant temperature sensor (or a bad sensor) might also cause these problems. Therefore, also check the coolant level in both the radiator and reservoir. Top off if necessary and then bleed the cooling system of trapped air.

Re: idle problem and runs rich
all the timing is dead on. no leaks. i unplugged the IAC and it didn't make any difference in the idleing problem. as far as the coolant goes I haven't checked for air pockets or anything but it is full and if the coolant temp sensor is bad the gauge wouldnt work???
