So I blew my D16Y8 and im going to have a B18C dropped in. Im going through D2 Motorsports in Roseville, Ca (D2motorsports.com) and it seems like im 'semi' going through an individual in buying the engine. $2900 for everything i need to do the swap. D2 said they dropped it in this guys car approx. 2000 miles ago and that it came with 40,000 on it. My question is this....Is there a way for me to test for engine mileage? What tests would you guys recommend that I have the shop do on the engine to make sure its ok?

I tried to search but i never found anything, so maybe this could be added to the FAQ if theres some good replies.

Okay, I will start off.

You may want to start of by having them show you the compression test. Compression test is one way I tell how good the engine is. I would want them to do it in front of you to verify the results. But that is just my opinion. Try calling other rebuild shops and ask them how they do it.

there's no way to tell how many miles are on any engine. you just have to take precautions as to how it looks, any wear, and like ariel said, compression test. check for obvious leaks or corrosion too
