Default Compression test before buying

Hello!
I wanted to know, how much of an idicator the compression test is?
I'm about to buy an old JDM turbo engine, which is not for Honda, sorry but it's just that this board is very knowlegable and that's why I ask.
So say if the comression is good across all four cylinders, does it mean that I'm getting a functional engine?
Thanks!
this is imporant for me

A compression test is good for indicating a number of potential problems with an engine such as a blown or damaged head gasket, cracked head, bent or worn valves, etc. If the test is good, then you know that these things are not wrong with the engine, and if the test is bad then you have a starting point from which to check out the rest of the engine to figure out what the problem is.
