The hood release cable on my 97 hatch has come free from the latch itself. I can see it through if I look through the grill. Is there any way for me to open the hood without it. I need to change my oil and this is really getting in the way of that.

where did it come detached from? the latch under the hood or the one on the kick panel? and if you can get under it you can open it with a flathead screwdriver.

It came loose from the latch itself under the hood. Car died on the way to work this morning too. Im pretty sure the distributor is bad. Any other ideas on to actually open the hood though?

you will have to replace it anyway just cut it under the wheel well and pull the cable out it should pop it for you.

You can be very, very mean to your bumper and make getting to the latch easy. I really don't see an easy way of doing this without replacing some type of body part on your front clip.

It's very simple, happened to me before. Just get under the car and use a screwdriver to open it. may have to remove the plastic splash shield.

Dont attack you car!! There is a way to open without damage. Jack up the front end so you can slide under and just pull the latch by hand.
